heavy bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok those of you who have been there, done that or those experiencing this also please give me your input.
I have been put on the bc pill to help control bleeding. I was put on Biaxin last week for a chest infection and it decreased the effect of my bc pill so I got the dreaded period a week early (well I have mid cycle bleeding floods anyways all the time)
My periods are usually about 5-6 days long, but the day 2&3 are what I call "hemorhage days" How much bleeding before you should go to emergency? I'm seriously beginning to wonder. My surgery is scheduled for Jan. It is not uncommon for me to go through a jumbo pack of the thick overnight with wings, and part of a moderate flow pack during one period. On the hem. days I am changing them almost hourly and they are soaked from one end to the other. When I stand up I get a flood during those days. It gets so scarey. My hem is low 92 but not as low as some who I've heard are in the 70's and 80's. I've started back with my weekly iron injections until surgery. My doctor is aware, but I have to wonder if he has any idea how much there really is (blood) and plenty of little to moderate sized clots too. Only have pain on one day now, the bc pill has helped there.
thanx for any input

If you are this concerned about the bleeding you should call your doctor immediately what you think is the cause of the bleeding may not be, and they may be able to change the bcp to counteract it. The one you have may just not be strong enough to hold you through your cycle.
I had a similar situation that was alleviated by following my doctor's advice, which I'll not post here.
As far as when to go to the hospital? If you're gonna passout or have already, I'd say get yer butt on down there. Just my lil opinion.

heavy bleeding
Hi mj64,
I fully understand what you are going through - I would go through a pack of overnights and a 40 pack of Superplus tampons in 24 hours. I did not how abnormal this one until I told a friend, and she encouraged me to be very specific with my doctor. The first one did not hear me, so I changed and I ended up with a SAH (8 weeks postop). I received some pills called Cyklokapron 500mg that would regulate or slow down the bleeding so that I could get through a social event if I needed to.
I used to get scared looking at the toilet every half hour wondering how it is possible I could live and lose that much blood, and clots. I was also told to go to emerg. for a D & C if hemorrhaging too bad. Since I never knew what normal was, I did not know when to go either. I did eventually have a D& C but it did not help at all. In hindsight, I would have really pinpointed this issue with my doc, with specifics, so that i would know what to do. I used to get quite woozy at the speed of the blood loss - people at work used to watch me in meetings get paler by the hour, until I would go home. As time went on, I could not go out during the "flood" time. I even went into surgery in a flood but they did not care at all.
Once your surgery is done, it is amazing how quickly iron levels boost up and how you don't miss your periods. As my sister told me, I had bled enough for many women for years to come.
So good luck if you decide to talk more with your doc and I hope your waiting goes quickly. Your problem is soon to be resolved,

heavy bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi
before surgery i had the same changing pads very hour two hours - very large clots etc feeling woozy, nausea and actually being sick with pain. my doc just recommended the hysterectomy which certainly cured the bleeding.
It is hard to know what normal is but if you worried perhaps you should go to emergency or be graphic with your dr. Mine asked me how many pads I was going though and how often I changed them.
If in doubt speak to your thats what there there for after all!!!
I know is horrible but hopefully it will all be over soon and then no more periods ever that was the thought that took me thought the waiting time.
Take care and try to rest

heavy bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi MJ. I had the same thing happen to me starting about 4 months ago.
Suddenly went from very heavy to hemorrage (was soaking thru a tampon and
pad in less that 15 minutes). I called the Doc, and immediately headed to the ER. They hooked me up to an IV drip of premerin. 2 doses with a 4 hour break in between.
Doc put me on a very strong BC pill, but I have ended up in ER for 2 out of the last 3 months.
Do not hesitate to get to an ER if you are scared. The nurses said that bleeding that heavily is
not good for your system, and you should never feel bad or guilty about going in for that.
Good luck!! And welcome to the January club!!

heavy bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks guys, I'm still here and the flow has considerably slowed down. I think I am going to go back on the very strong bcp that the Dr. prescribed. I was bad and went back to my faithful 777 because the strong ones made me gain 10lbs right off the bat and my boobs were sore like I was pregnant all month long. I think I"ll take sore boobs and a little extra weight over bleeding that heavy. I literally have to call in sick if I'm scheduled when it's hemorhage day.
I have had days like this for 3 years, about 9 of my periods a year are that bad so it is almost "normal" to me.
But like you sisters said, come January, no more. I've just been getting grief from a nurse at work who is a real naturalist and says I'm taking the cowards way out, that I should wait it out until menopause and "save my uterus"
I'm almost tempted at this point though to say "take the cervix too" Though, I will only have scant amts of spotting monthly if they leave it in.

heavy bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MJ, I just wanted to tell you that soaking through a pad in an hour or less is considered hemmorhaging! I bled like that for almost 4 mos. straight with very few days off just before my TVH. I finally called my doc who was very concerned about all the bleeding and said it definitely was not normal. At this point, he ordered an ultrasound. What he saw was a very thick edometrium that he did not like the looks of at all. The next step was a hysteroscopy and d & c where he did a biopsy and found a polyp that he removed. The biopsy showed precancerous cells...my chances for getting cancer were fairly slim, but in my own opinion what is too slim when it comes to cancer? I was not willing to risk even a minute chance of getting it, plus my uterus was prolapsed and when he did the hyst he found fibroids. My doc told me if it were his own wife he would want her to have the hysterectomy and my doctor is pretty conservative. I don't regret my decision to have the hyst at all. Everyone has to make their own decision about this...that was mine. It is NOT normal to bleed that much though and you will need to address that problem in some way.
I am not trying to scare you...this is just my story and I wrote my ending...you will write yours. But, that kind of bleeding should not be allowed to go on for very long.

Hi mj64,
I was just horrified to hear what your nurse colleague said to you - believe you me, this is no cowards way out. It takes courage to make the decision for a hyst. Obviously she has not experienced bleeding as we know it or she would have more open minded thinking. I went to a herbalist/ naturalist and tried their stuff - it just did not work in the long run. Nothing short of a hyst could have reduced my fibroid. My gym trainer told me it was a direct result of the stress I have placed in my life, my need for control and hence a clean orderly house. Bogwash, my friend has a very "well lived in" house and had a fibroid way bigger than mine. There are some things that just happen. You have made an informed, knowledgeable choice - Go girl!! By the way, I kept my cervix and am not having periods. The first go round I had a slight discharge that was barely noticeable. And that has been it.
On your way to
 days,

I hear you!
Hi!
I hear you and understand exactly what you are going through! I have been bleeding heavily for what seems like forever and I to am not realy clear on what "normal" is
I finally broke down and decided that it was time :time2:
I go in for surgery on 12/13 . Although part of me is scared to death, the other part (and much wiser part) can't wait. Just think...no more pads...ever!
It is so nice to hear from people who understand what I have gone through with the horrible bleeding, clots and cramps. I is nice to know that we are not alone or crazy like other people seem to think!
I can't wait to celebrate when my pain and suffering is finally over!
Sincerely,
Angela

heavy bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the support. She also thought I was I was crazy to have my gallbladder surgically removed, that I should take these "vitamins" to disolve the stones. Meanwhile, I was living on toast and water and pain killers. The wait for surgery was so long the surgeon said he got it just in time before complications.
As for the bleeding! Maybe just 2 more periods to go!! If I bleed like this I will go to emerg, but I am going to take my stronger bcp like the doctor ordered.
