Cyst on ovary

as of the first of April it has been two years since I had my hysterectomy. Now we have found out through ct that I have a cyst on my right ovary that is bigger then the ovary itself and the left one has scar tissue on it. I am waiting on a referral to a gyn thanks to my insurance. I am not sure how to go into this appt. i want the ovaries taken out asap. Ovarian cancer runs in my family and I do not want the risk. My hormones are all off already they have since before the surgery. I have hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia etc.. Is there anything you all can suggest me ask the doctor or talk to him about

Thank you.

Re: it's been two years

Hi there,

I would strongly suggest doing a lot of research. I did so many google searches! This helped me tremendously to be prepared for my doc appt. Doing this made me aware of things that I would never have thought of. For instance, removing the falopian tubes can lower your risk of ovarian cancer. I mentioned that to my doc and he agreed so I had them removed. You have to be your own doc in a way. You may find that you have several options when you do your research and present them to your doc. You will find that when your doc talks to you about your situation, you will have a better understanding and make a more educated decisions based on your research.

Are you waiting for your insurance co to provide you with a gyn or do you have one and just waiting for your insurance co give approval? Do you have friends or family that can recommend a good doc? I would definitely call your insurance co and make sure they don't have you waiting too long. If you think they are, ask to speak with a supervisor.

Good luck with everything and God bless!

Re: Cyst on ovary

Yea I have a list of questions I have found since you posted your reply. I will have everything removed if they remove the ovaries I at no chance want to be at risk for cancer in that area of my body. I will not do any medications as into shrink the cyst(we did that before the hyst) and it never worked and ovarian cancer runs in my family on both sides. I want to be pulled off my prozac which I was put on after the hyst so I am looking at organic or more natural ways of dealing with the hot flashes etc.. I already know I want a topical hormone if needed there still is a lot more I need to look at.

The insurance already provided me an gyn because of the past issues with the ones iv had my PCM took a little bit to find one he thought was great for me. My appt is tomorrow (yea go figure on a Saturday) but I am ready to get this ball rolling.
