Great to have a sister in Germany and hear about experiences in a different health care system. I am a health economist and always interested in how the same indications can be approached so differently in different nations. But there is also such variety across doctors' approaches even within the US. To a speedy recovery!

Listen everyone. Take care not to dis someone's own recovery trajectory. It is clear from everything that I have read, from my doctor, and even reading the hugely varying experiences of women who had surgeries on the same week-we all heal at our own rate. What is right for someone maybe wrong for another. PacNWSis clearly was very fit before her surgery and had a relatively easy surgery. I just ran into a neighbor on my walk who said by week 2 she was already biking. If the doctor said it was ok to do more than most of us can conceive of, it must be ok. I used to be a climber. I remember climbing in Boulder one time and this woman who was visibly very pregnant breezed by me on a route. She said she normally climbed very extreme routes and this was a piece of cake for her. Like a walk in the park. She was so fit and so beautifully balanced and precise in her climbing I just watched her go on by. Who was I to judge? She was down before I made it to the top. I wish PacNWSis would rejoin.
Very nice comments. I find it fascinating to read the recovery stories and how some aren't as fast as others. It helps me gauge better where I am. If PacNWSis feels that great, more power to her! I know that I read being in good shape before surgery will speed along your recovery. All I read was that she went to the gym to walk on a treadmill. She's not lifting weights! We're supposed to be walking, so what if she does hers in a gym and avoids the elements! It's pouring rain here right now, so I wouldn't be outside. Sorry, just my two cents...

Very dry burning throat, drinking lots of liquids. I do take my painkiller here or there, pain like bad cramps and back ache. Sleeping a lot and feel energetic but tired and weak if that makes sense, lol. My husband keeps reminding me to not to do too much.

I have only wanted soups since I have been home and when I first could eat solid, my throat was so swollen I could not swallow, so I could only eat like the cheesy potatoes and next day the eggs and hashbrowns.

I want to thank HysterSisters for the great support, advice and knowledge that I have recieved here, greatly appreciated! THANK YOU![/quote]

I am glad to see comments of support for PacNWSis. Like others have said, everyone recovers differently and you have to go by what your doctor says. I do hope that PacNWSis will take note that we want her back for her input and support. We are all Sisters in this world and we do need to help each other on this journey.

First post-op bright and early in the morning followed by a visit to primary doc to check on status of pneumonia.

Hope everyone has a restful evening

LMMK, how awful you have pneumonia! You must be so tired.

Day six here. Really rested up today. Only took one dose of Advil. Had period-like aches and mild cramps in my abdomen off and on all day. Only one BM today which equals only one horrendous attack of pain and spasms.

Started missing sex today for the first time. But the thought of anything happening down there--let alone touching me down there--is NOT a happy thought. No problem waiting five more weeks. But mentally, I miss my hubby "that way." I told him I dont want to shelve our romantic life for five weeks entirely---that I needed plenty of kissing, touching, and occasional squeezing for the next five weeks, despite the fact we can't have actual sex. His response: "What's the point???"

He got a smack for his "joke."

Men.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Hello all. I am 30 and had a LAVH on the 20th of April. Went in for surgery at 9 and the doctor was late. I ended up having the surgery at about 2.
Doc said that all was perfect...the perfect surgery. I woke up in pain...and was really sick from the anesthesia. The pain kept me from eating all night and breakfast the next day. They gave me morphine which seemed every 2 hours on the dot but it only eased the pain.
It wasn’t until I made myself eat some crackers and milk to take Percocet that I felt better…in fact I felt brand new; in pain but able to function.
They took the cath out that morning and discharged me. The night at the hospital seemed the worst night.
My husband’s job (military) kept him from staying with me during these weeks but with the love and support of my family, I was able to get through last week. If it weren’t for my dad and stepmom (I feel she is my real mom), and my aunt I don’t know how I would have made it through. I love them tremendously…they were so very supportive…
I am now 1 week post op and still very sore. I know its early in the recovery but I am feeling surprisingly better than I expected to. I was able to get up and go out yesterday to the store. It was slow but I am a busy body and the staying in bed all day is so hard for me to do. Yes, I do enjoy not feeling guilty for being lazy but its not that easy.
I notice some light spotting more at the end of the day. When with this go away? Does anyone know?
Good luck to everyone in their recovery!

Day 7 Made it a week horray!!

You know it so funny how hungry I get then i go make food and i dont want a drop of it. I had a wonderful dinner a friend made and OMG this morning i paid for eating it. I had taken a stool softener before eating but it did nothing to help.

The nausia is still so horrable. When will it stop? I see the dr tomorrow and I pray he can give me something. I dont have much pain anymore other then the bowels and peeing sometimes hurts and cramps still. The little strips on my incitions fell off today. The little sites are all bruised and raised but all healed over. So guess that a good sign. The huge bruise i have on my belly is still there but starting to heal.

Keep walking and keep the sun shining on you. Hope you are all having more good then bad days

Jay

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Had surgery on Friday, 22. Don't know all the terminology, but basically had everything removed. Pre-breast cancer triggered by estrogen plus other bleeding/pain/fibroids made the decision pretty easy. Bad thing is after two days, it was back to work for me--I teach online and there really wasn't a good time between terms to take care of this. Luckily, my students have been very supportive!

Anyone else exhausted? I feel like taking a nap 3-4 times a day, and that's with cutting down the meds. I'm also getting mixed messages about when I can drive--had vaginal, so no incision on the outside to worry about. Any thoughts out there?

Also, please tell me it gets easier to pee--one moment I'm fine, and then I'm hobbling for the bathroom. I knew this wouldn't be easy, but somehow, I thought I was tougher than this!

Wow! Back to work in two days? You're brave!! I'm too exhausted to think about work. Yes, taking naps every couple of hours is how I feel. I am on day 7 right now and only took one nap, even though I've been tired all day. I also have pulling or burning occasionally when I pee. I had a sling repair, so I'm sure there's a lot going on inside!

I also had the vaginal surgery with a lot of repairs. No outside incisions, but I feel slight pulling when I move the wrong way or stretch. I'm pretty sure that driving is out of the question for at least two weeks, but your doctor should let you know at your post-op.

Please try to get the rest you need! Your body has gone through a major surgery and needs the time. I understand about needing to work, but please take care of yourself.
