Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Got back from my 1 week check up. The dr did no internal checks just looked at insition sites and went over emotions and asked a lot of questions about how i am feeling.

Pathology: He was a bit shocked with what they found. I went in for problems with bleeding heavy periods. Making me very animic and that was causing other problems like high blood pressure and my kidneys were slowing down. So we had to do something. This was the first step... The Dr said my uturis was very sick. interesting way to put it he said the lining was very thick there were tons of little frybroids throught all the tissue. They were litteraly sucking my life away (blood supply). He said they are so glad that they went the way they did and that it should help to know I made the right decition. I was not going mad I was sick nice to know!

He gave me nausia meds HORRAY!! he said that should help with the sleeping insomnia. And for the ladies worried about asking for more (pain) meds dont be!! My dr actualy asked if i needed more. You had MAJOR Sergury dont try and get off your meds before you are ready you will do more damage then you think you will by doing that. You need to rest stay off your feet other then a little bit of walking and let your body heal. You can damage your remaining organs and cause all sorts of complication and scaring you did not think you could do inside by doing to much. IT OK TO REST!! The stuff will be waiting for you when you are better trust me! You only have 1 Chance to heal right!

Happy Healing back to bed tv and some video games and hopefuly rest will come when the nausia meds kick in.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Had my 1st Post Op appointment today. Of course, they must weigh you before anything else. I said out loud to the nurse, I'm scared to see how much I gained. She laughed and said no worries, I didn't even pay attention after that. DOc came in after and said I had lost 4 lbs. I was like, wow with this swelling? Right On! LOL
He said I was healing nicely and took off the steri strips from my incision.
I had 8 fibroids and uterus the size of a melon. Hubby askes, watermelon or honeydew melon? LOL....Good question, honeydew melon. Guess what hubby served me for lunch? haha....some melon.....
He didn't do a vaginal check as I have to go back next Tuesday for that. He said I was doing great and to keep resting the way I have been. WHEW! I thought I wasn't doing enough or was doing too much.
He gave me more percocet and I do need it. By the time we got home, I was in pain and wiped out.
Salute to all the sisters and happy healing.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Hi all. I've not posted much in awhile. I was really disheartened over the backlash posts over excercising. I felt bad for the person who posted that she was on the treadmill, and I really didn't see the big difference between walking outside and walking on the treadmill....at least if she got tired, she'd not have far to go before she could rest.....
Anyway, other than that, I'm feeling good. Tomorrow will be 11 days post op for me. I was in pretty good shape (excercised regularly for years) prior to my surgery. I have not had any pain or soreness in my stomach muscles; don't know if it's too early or if being in shape has helped that area. I'm taking it easy though, and have napped probably everyday.
I find I have to remind myself of the things I shouldn't do. I'm really wondering if it's okay to walk for like an hour.....if I'm not hurting, or too tired? I'm just wondering as long as I'm not straining, does that do any harm?
I did not have to take any pain medicine, other than the ibuprofen she prescribed. My main reason for taking it is really for the anti-inflammatory properties. Trust me, this isn't because I am trying to be superworman or anything like that. I just didn't feel the need for the stronger medicine. I have not had any bleeding at all. I'm hoping my physical shape pre surgery is accelerating my healing post surgery. I definitely feel fortunate when I read some of the other stories. I wish you all speedy healing. Thank you.

I've had a similar pain, right side, under rib cage, but it's in the front instead of the back.......don't really know what it is, but I've had it for a few days. It has gotten better though. Mine seems related to when I move.......and the pain can just stop me in my tracks. So hard to tell what it could be.....could be nerve endings waking up I guess.....

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Had dreaded post-op yesterday and although I cried a lot...it wasn't bad. Staples removed, incision cleaned, steri-strips on and a little cortization on a spot in the incision--no vaginal exam. No driving for another 2 weeks...just bed rest. My emotions have kicked in big time. Both ovaries were removed so I was given a shot of estrogen..not sure it is working ( Day 7 and off of pain meds, my husband took me for a quick car ride and feeling better...just emotional and sore. The pain is different everyday..my incision I am told looks good...but it is on fire! Is anyone else struggling with the weepies? Good Night- sweet dreams.

i'm sorry you are dealing with so many different emotions...interesting as my doctor gave me stitches and not staples...i have my post op in 5 weeks...she told me no working out until then and no driving for 2 weeks..which means next week i am cleared for driving...although i'm thinking it's okay to wait an additional week...

I am so *******' happy !

I had Abdominal surgery via incision on April 18th for Stage 1B1 cervical cancer. Radical Hysterectomy with removal of ovaries, uterus, cervix, top portion of vagina and also lymph nodes and tissue surrounding the cervix.

I feel pretty good! trying to get my bowels back in sync and now that the cath is out need to work on waking up my bladder too! The actual incision has not really bothered me too much - he did a beautiful job and I look forward to a smooth healing!

Obturator nerve was stretched during the surgery... but I should recover fully from that with PT.... right leg is just a bit weak with reduced range in motion... so I have list of exercises to do at home til the in home PT service kicks in....

My follow up is in 4 weeks... at which time I hope to get the all clear to drive and to return to work.

Wishing you all continued healing and peace !
Clair
That's awesome news, Claire! What a relief!!
