Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Hi Enduring.

You're doing quite a bit more than I am! Sounds like fun, too. I am SOOO bored, let me tell you. I called my co-workers, I was so bored.

Mostly, I have been in bed. I watched 'Look Who's Talking'... did not have any baby regrets, lol. I had a little spat with my 14 year old son over his Facebook etiquette, realized that yelling at him made my incisions from LAVH hurt and sore. Called in DH to deal with him.

On a positive note, I slipped into my jeans yesterday. That made me happy. Though, I could not see myself at work in them for 8 hrs. I work a desk job at a college, casual dress, but no... still way too sore. I'm 3 days post-op today.

I am going to try to do more tomorrow. It's going to be the warmest day in the Pacific Northwest in many months here tomorrow. I'd like to get some vitamin D. Maybe I can convince DH to have lunch in the park with me. I'm sure that will be followed by a nap.

Is anyone else still really sore and tired? I hope for speedy recoveries for us all!

Hugs,

Pac

P.S. I am having a heck of a time sleeping at night. Can't sleep for more than 2 hrs at a time, and up for an hr in between. My naps are short-lived, as well.

Anyone sleeping through the night?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Had my surgery Wednesday, came home Thursday, so I guess this is day three post-op for me. Was sent home with catheter so I'm feeling pretty miserable and confined. I'd love to put on some normal undies and walk around this house without a giant hose attatched to my leg.

Slept through the night last night only because I took an Advil PM. Woke up several times but had no trouble going back to sleep. I can tell when this is all over and I'm sorting myself back on schedule I will have a tough time getting my sleep cycle back on track.

Bowel movements are now coming on their own without much help. Painful but a relief, too. Having much less gas pains today.

I do have a killer headache I woke up with. Don't know if it's associated with sleeping or if it's a delayed reaction to anesthesia or drugs.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

Hello all!
Finally checking in after my TAH on April 18th.... was just released yesterday the 22nd.
I was definitely ready to come home yesterday but was also happy to be in the hospital for all the assistance that was provided.
I passed gas on wed so they started permitting me to have clear liquid diet... which quickly moved to soft diet because I was not having problems with nausea.

All went well and not experiencing too much discomfort. I was sent home with the catheter ... this is due to the extent of my surgery and have appointment to have it removed at doctor's office on wednesday... I am hoping I don't have too much problem or pain urinating once it is removed.
I had a radical hysterectomy due to 1b1 cervical cancer. This involved removing the tissue outside the cervix as well as the lymph nodes.

Only problem from surgery was the opertature(sp?) nerve was slightly stretched while surgeon was trying to remove one of the lymph nodes .... the node was "sticky" and the nerve was stretched in the efforts to retrieve this one node.
result is that my right leg is a bit weak and my range of motion is not as good as should be. My doc had a PT come in to my room to provide exercises and I will also have PT at home during my recovery. My muscles are in good shape... so that should assist with regaining strength in that leg.

Other than that... I am doing well. Lots of support from my BF and my family / friends.
Have not had a bowel movement yet... eating pretty light so expect to see some action in the next day or two.

continued best wishes and healing vibes to all ~

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

I had my surgery on the 18th, so this is 5 days post op. I am having major issues with bloating, gas, indigestion.......I have pains which I believe are related to gas.....I get indigestion to where I almost vomit. I have been taking the colace daily, and am wondering if that is causing me the problems. Although I have had a bm, I'm still sticking to mainly a liquid/soft diet. I'm fearful that the symptoms I have will be worse if I eat a more substantial diet. I can tell you that gagging (unable not to) is very painful.....so glad I never got sick though.

I'm thinking I should stop taking the colace. Any thoughts?

Not sure what colace is but I am still suffering really badly from the gas pain and indigestion etc, almost scared to eat too much so sticking to very little amounts, I also feel sooo that I think there is no room for any food!!! I think some of the pain relief especially ibuprofen gives you tummy ache it's a vicious circle really x I feel for you I really do, I have hade 4 c sections and am finding recovery from hysterectomy is worse for sure....so swollen and bloated let's hope it gets better it's only early days xxx

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 18-Apr 24,2011

I'd say stop with the Colace and see how it goes. I had tremendous heartburn and all around semi-nausea coming home so I finally took a couple doses of Zantac twelve hours apart. Took care of the heartburn. I have had lots of Gas X and then took Milk of Magnesia. After a couple of bowel movements, the Zantac, and lots of fluids, my digestion seems mostly back on track. But I still have no real appetite and am only nibbling on healthy snacks every few hours. I'd say chug the Gas X, stop the colace, and maybe try taking small amounts of metamucil throughout the day to keep your bowels moving instead of relying on the colace.

I am not one to use these chat sites, so sorry if I do this wrong. I am meaning to post to this thread. I had a gVH/RALH Davinci hysterectomy on April 22. I am feeling a bit ouchy and gassy, but not really in pain. Moving slowly. Trying to walk regularly around the house. Everything went well. Hope it continues that way.

Hi liveforever,

I think you should talk to your Dr before you stop taking the Colace. You could end up with harder BMs that would cause other unwanted issues. If he/she does think that Colace is the problem, they'd also be able to offer you an alternative.
