High Blood Pressure after Hysterectomy

Has anyone developed high blood pressure after their hysterectomy?

Re: High Blood Pressure after Hysterectomy

Yep, my bp fluctuated alot following my tah/bso. However; after some time it did eventually level back to normal. What does your doctor say? Might be worthwhile to purchase a machine for home and take your readings over a period of time. What I found was that my readings fluctuated ALOT.

Re: High Blood Pressure after Hysterectomy

Yes, my blood pressure has never been this elevated. Don't know if I should go to the emergency room or not. Already on medication for BP. Called cardiologist today and he called me in Coreg (beta blocker/pressure medication). All of this came about around the 4th week post op. What else can I do?

Re: High Blood Pressure after Hysterectomy

Yes!! My blood pressure was very well controlled pre-hysterectomy, then increased so much that I was hospitalized in November for observations. It is currently in the 120's/80's with medications; but I feel that whatever caused my BP to spike has not been addressed. My doctor says to continue to monitor my bp and take my meds and let him know of any changes -- trending too high or too low...... My doctor was able to do some "tweaks" to the meds so the side effects aren't too bad. He thought the swelling could be a result of food choices, so am meeting with a dietician this evening to discuss......

The first meds they put me on made my feet look like sausages..was awful..I just had a sono of my kidneys..it was good..but I am going to see a "hypertension" specialist tomorrow..its normal here at home but when I go to the doctors its still up..on bp meds and a beta blocker. Hate taking pills...good luck.

Re: High Blood Pressure after Hysterectomy

Good to hear that your sonogram looked normal. I went through all of that over a year ago when I was first diagnosed with high blood pressure. Everything looked good -- thank goodness -- but nothing I did (losing 35 pounds, getting more exercise, watching my diet) seemed to help -- except for taking the meds. When my bp spiked after the hysterectomy, they re-did the tests and everything still looked fine. Am currently sharing my readings monthly with a hypertension specialist and he checks my kidney function every 2 - 3 months because bp meds can cause problems -- so far no issues there. I don't like taking the meds, either, but for me they are a necessity....

When I was first diagnosed, I was always much higher in the doctor's office, then at home and my doctor put me on clonidine to help after doing a 24 hours bp monitor. They discovered that my bp tended to spike at various times throughout the day. The clonidine helps keep it more controlled and I have the flexibility to take extra when it goes over 160/100. (So far, I have only needed to take the extra dose 3 times in the last 2 months.)

I am currently working with a dietician to make better food choices. Tonight's topic is going to be on what foods to avoid when swelling is an issue.

Good luck and good health!!

Re: High Blood Pressure after Hysterectomy

I did NOT have renal steno sis which can cause high bp..but I guess the blood flow to kidneys is 77 in one and 78 in the other and they want it at a 1..so that's why the dr.s appt tomorrow..pretty nervous about it. I had uterine cancer and it was all contained in the uterus..had the davinci on September 8th..went for 4 month check up yesterday..CA 125 test came back great..hoping the pap does also..just to much going on all at once..and wonder why high bp's..lol take care.
