Hysteroscopic myomectomy + ablation

I just had a hysteroscopic myomectomy + ablation 3 days ago on 1/20/11. I am doing really well

I'm 46 years old with a history of heavy periods, epic bleeding events and severe uterine prolapse. I had a submucosal fibroid that was about 4 cm. This surgery was the alternative I chose over a hysterectomy because of pre-existing complications. I have a 6x6 piece of mesh in my abdomen from an incisional hernia repair from July 2010. I also have a blood clot in my greater saphenous vein (that I got from the hernia repair-- it was a 9 hour surgery!). My fibroid was causing epic bleeding -- to the point of need transfusions--when they tried blood thinner therapy for my leg clot. I also have chronic lower back pain. Possible mesh infections and long surgery time needed to be avoided if possible.

I also considered a Uterine Artery Embolization but was declined because of my uterine prolapse. I had increased risk for uterine infection after the UAE because of my prolapse.

The myomectomy and ablation took about 2 hours and I stayed in the hospital for one day. This was really helpful for IV pain control. I have very little bleeding post-op--just a very minute amount. The surgeon said she removed 90% of the fibroid and performed a roller ball ablation.

I have had numerous abdominal surgeries and this one was not too bad. The first few hours in recovery were the worst mostly due to lower back pain from having my legs in stirrups for the procedure. My wonderful surgeon let me adjust my legs before putting me to sleep to make sure I was in the most comfortable position I could be in.

I am 3 days post-op and made pancakes for the family this morning and did some laundry
I'll post updates during my recovery. I am hoping that this surgery will lessen my bleeding so I can be on blood thinners and not require blood transfusions!
