Unhappy - Vitamin D deficiency Vitamin D deficiency

I have just been diagnosed with severe Vitamin D deficiency and am also hypothyroid - did your doc say what is causing the Vitamin D deficiency? I'm guessing it's all the related Endo stuff as I've just started getting bad migraines on top of everything doc doesn't really know what's causing it but told me to take 2000mg of D daily and will retest in 2 months. I was taking about 1000mg here and there when I felt well enough to pop extra pills. Most of the time I'm just not feeling well enough to take vitamins on top of HRT and pain killers.

Re: Vitamin D deficiency

At my first appointment with my endometriosis specialist, he shared with me that they are finding many women with endometriosis are also deficient in Vitamin D. So that is one of the tests he ran for me. My levels were fine.

Interestingly enough, I found a study that indicates that those of us with endometriosis might have higher reserves of Vitamin D!

Very confusing to say the least, just like everything else about this condition!

Those of us with endometriosis also have higher instances of migraines. Since yours have just began, I wonder if the issue is related to hormonal imbalance or one of your medications or supplements.

I think it would be wise for you to keep a very detailed symptom diary. Note any symptoms you have, when you have a migraine, what supplements you take and when, how you feel, any pain, whatever.

You may also want to try to spend some time in the sun since Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin!

I have found with my own body that when one thing is out of whack, it can cause a chain reaction of issues. Also, treating one issue can create another health concern if we are not careful.

I know how you feel about not feeling well enough to take many vitamins. When I was at my lowest, between all of my doctors they had me on a handful of pills for one thing or another. Prescription pain meds, allergy meds, vitamins, stomach meds, on and on and on. Some days looking at them I just could not make myself swallow them and would pick out anything but the prescriptions!

One thing that might help is finding anything you can in something other than pill form. For instance, calcium comes in chewable candies. Vitamin B12 comes in a tiny pill that dissolves under your tongue. Ask your doctors if anything you are using comes in a melting strip, patch, gel, powder to mix in food or drinks, anything other than a pill. Or ask if any of your pills can be crushed and mixed in food like applesauce or yogurt. It might be easier to get everything down if you don't have to swallow several pills that then sit like lead in your stomach!
