Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Hi Everyone

Just a quick check in to let you all know I'm still alive and kicking. It's been hectic as usual in our home. Pool is now open but I've yet to be in it besides having placed the weights under the pool ladder to hold it in place. Burrrr, was a bit chilly.

Not sure I mentioned in the end of May thread that DH brought one of his planes home. I'm NOT happy about having it sitting in the back yard. And yet another one to come.

It's nice to have HOT water again. I'm loving the new water heater. I'd forgotten how quickly it can actually heat up. LOL. Makes for a nice shower.

Had to take DH to the ER today. He is having back spasms. I was so afraid he had herniated a disc. But ER doc thinks not. So no MRI or Xray. Is on meds for a few days. Hopefully he wont' have to suffer too much. If he doesn't improve in the next 2-3 days I will insist our Primary doc order a MRI.

Had another private duty run to Philly. Made for a long day when I got home and found DH in so much pain. I'm only now finishing up paperwork on 1 of the 3 projects I promised people I would do for them. Note to self....... just say no.......just say No........Just say NO!!!

Night all -
M.

We tied a record for heat today. 98F. Tomorrow they think we'll reach 100F.

Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Wow Kim - that's hot! On the way home from the store the thermometer in my car said 102F and the bank in town said 103. We've been 17 days since our last rain. We're hoping for thunderstorms to cool & soak everything. Just too hot too fast. I sure hope it cools off quickly for you with some rain - and us.
And to think I complain of the *now in the winter.

Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Hi Girls,
Well, I am up and ready for Curves, I think today will probably be my last day. It closes officially next Wednesday. So sad! :-( The ladies have been wonderful and I will miss them so much. We are all going to the Boathouse for lunch next Thursday. It is a restaurant on the banks of the Ohio River. The owner will be there all day Monday and I am assuming Tues and Wed. I will go on Wed. to say goodbye to the ladies who won't be joining us for lunch.
DH's brother has moved back here from Texas and is living with ****-L, who is not happy about it! LOL These old guys get set in their ways and don't like it when someone comes around and changes things. On the other hand it it a bit of a relief having someone with him.
Need to go feed and walk Gertie before I leave. I will be at Curves until 6:00. Have a wonderful day.
Desk, you are doing so great!
Melissa, we were to have rain yesterday but it didn't happen.
See ya later Besties!

Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Hi Best Girls~

Here you are, I finally found you!

I wondered where everyone was hiding...it took some searching around but I am so glad I found you all!!

I've been MIA for about 3 years. I am back now though needing my sisters help! I have some health issues that losing weight would help to improve. My diabetes (got diagnosed about 6 yrs ago) is going crazy! Trying hard to get that under control. Then more recently got diagnosed with having COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) with emphysema. This was from being a smoker. I had smoked for about 18 yrs and had quit for 13 yr and relapsed 2 yrs ago and am currently back to being an ex-smoker again. (just over 3 weeks smoke free)

My doctors have stated that losing weight will help both of these conditions. Of course one of first thoughts were that I need my sisters help here at BEST!

I joined Weight Watchers this past Tuesday....so far so good with food choices. Still not started any kind of exercise yet though, but that will come along too!

It feels good to be back already!

Take Care, Dawn

Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Hi Dawn! long time no see! You can get back to health with us!!

I have been having great success logging in all my food online. It helps to have a smart phone and do it on the phone too, but it's so easy to just go to the computer and let it do all the calculating for you. Check out the websites for MyFitnessPal or for SparkPeople (both are .com) I am using both, just because I like to compare the two. Most days I manage to keep them within a few calories of each other, and they keep me honest.

Come back to the daily thread, it's been pretty lonely there!

Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Hi All!

Well, the wanderers are back in the nest...and I can hold both eyes open at the same time, so thought I'd get a post going. DH has me watching some 1970's western (ugh), so I thought I'd "multi task" LOL. DS22's move went well. His internet was connected yesterday (just in the nick of time...his head was about to explode LOL) and he's out with friends eating burritos as we speak, so life is good there. DS19 is visiting college pals this weekend and is really liking his internship, so life is good there too. Whew! My budget is in the ICU. It's going to be a very quiet month around here .

I hate to bring this up, but our weather is chilly (and I LOVE it!)...60 degrees and rainy today, and most of this week has been the same. It's not helping the weekend festivals and art shows, though, so that is sad. I feel so much better when it's cooler. I'll try to send some east and south.

I went to the doctor last week...the travel food finally caught up with me. I saw someone new (a local doc), and he was GREAT! He didn't look at me like I was crazy at all. In fact, he talked about how his wife has the same reaction I do whenever she ingests aspartame. He suggested traveling with an H2 blocker instead of any respiratory allergy meds, since I'm eating my allergen rather than inhaling it. He also gave me a steroid shot to take the edge off my reaction (major congestion...even in my ears) and told me I have a quirky immune system. LOL That seemed pretty consistent with the rest of me, so I accepted his diagnosis gladly. Of course, he's a fitness nut and reminded me that the best way to deal with these sorts of things is through exercise. (yuck ) It's a better idea than the meds, so it's time to get back OP.

Desk...I'm going to plan to get back on the daily thread next week. Time to get back in the saddle. I've missed your inspiration and enthusiasm. GREAT JOB on the 25 pounds! I know what you mean about trying to keep everyone happy...it's impossible.

Dawn...GREAT to see you again! I need to get back on track again too! CONGRATS on quitting smoking! Awesome!!

Margo...I'm so sorry to hear about your Curves closing, but it sounds like you have great plans in preparing for that sweet grandbaby. I know just what you mean about old guys being set in their ways. LOL Don't get in between them...could be dangerous!! LOL

Valorie...Hope you had a great time with your guests!

Melissa...Ouch! Hope DH is feeling better, and you're having a chance to enjoy that pool! ...especially with your weather as hot as it has been. Take a break this weekend...you've earned one!

Barri...Meant to mention last time that I hope the doctor appointment went well. Have you gone vegetarian? Great job on the awesome grades!

Kim...Wow! I hope you've had some relief since those terribly hot days! Take care!

Hellos to Nancy and all the rest of the BEST! Glad to see you're keeping the home fires burning here!

Hugs,
PJ

Re: JUNE B.E.S.T. Chatter thread

Hi Everyone!! If you posted on Saturday, and can remember what you posted, please repost your chatter if you'd like to. Hystersisters had a database problem and posts from Saturday were lost. You can read more about it in Kathy's note on the main forum page...(at the top right of the forums).

Dawn...I think I had asked you if you had a place to walk...so you could just walk from your house. I'm not sure how much you can walk or how far, but walking is simple, free, and always available. Start out small. Even just 5 or 10 minutes. Then you'll find you'll slowly be able to add more time. Make sure to always wear really good shoes. Flip flops don't make good walking shoes. I'm still walking every day and today's walk will make day number 6135. (Divide that by 365 and I've been walking for 16.8 years. August marks my 17th full year.) I didn't start out to walk for this long. I started as a way to get in shape. I started writing my walks on my calendar. I was so happy when I didn't miss after a week, then suddenly a month, then 3 months and on and on. I even walked at 3:00 a.m. the morning of my hysterectomy in case they didn't get me up to walk. But they did, so I even walked that evening. Some walks are faster when the weather is nice or if I'm feeling really good. Some walks are slower...on days it's really hot or cold or icy, or my feet hurt. But I walk. Your walks don't have to be racewalking speed. Just walk.

I'm busy this morning. Getting ready to go to Curves, then my walk, and lots to get done before visiting DD and having a family reunion in MA next week.
And on Saturday morning, I'm joining in with my Zumba instructor and the ladies from my Curves. The Zumba instructors from our area, and all the folks that do Zumba are trying to break a Guiness World Record of the most people doing Zumba in one location at one time. We have to check in at like 3 different locations to make the count correct. Then we have to keep moving for the entire hour of Zumba. It should be a lot of fun. We don't have to do the Zumba all correctly...just keep moving with them.

I think that's it for me.
