So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

I just need to completely vent!!!! When I scheduled my surgery I said quite a few times morning surgery. Today, they call and tell me to be at hospital for 11am on Monday my surgery is at 2pm. If they had even told me this was a remote possibility I wouldn't have scheduled. #1 OR's are never on schedule so it will only be later... #2 I am holding on by a shoestring and know the first little thing will have me walking out of hospital because I'm completely freaked out #3 Now I won't be drinking the entire day which isn't bad if it's early but 2pm is just way too late for me.

I've been having second thoughts about having everything removed and this is just making me want to forget the whole thing. I'm starting to think I can live the next year with a heavy flow I've been doing it this long and am close to menopause anyway.

Sorry just need to get this out and no one is home!!!!

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Hi RoeD,

Hang in there and please do not put it off. I put mine off and ended up being admitted into the hospital from hemorraging with a blood count of 5 and had to get a transfusion. I could have died. They put me on medicine to stop the bleeding until I could get on the surgery schedule. Luckily mine was scheduled for the morning and was pretty much on time.

I know it's along time to wait for eating and drinking but I could not eat after midnight and had to be at the hospital at 5:30am. So maybe your final instructions will tell you no eating or drinking maybe by early morning, check with them to be sure and then eat as late as possible.

I had a total abdominal not sure which kind you are going to have, it was not that bad. You will have good and bad days but for you future life a few bad days are well worth it.

Hang in there and I pray everything works out well for you.

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Hi RoeD! I can understand your frustration. Luckily, once you get into the hospital you get so distracted by getting ready that you don't think about being hungry or thirsty. Maybe if you can sleep in late, it won't be that bad. I was worried about the same thing, I had to be at the hospital by 10:30. I kept well hydrated and drank as much water as late as I could the day and night before, so it wasn't bad at all.

Hang in there! You are so close. The waiting is the hardest thing.
Hugs!

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Thanks all. I see that most people on this forum have a pre-op visit about a week before their surgery and maybe if I had I wouldn't be so concerned right now. I think the late surgery is just the thing that pushed me over the edge.

I've been having second thoughts because I have unanswered questions. For example, I just found out that TAH means the cervix goes too, but it was never mentioned to me. I thought maybe I missed something but I asked my daughter who attended every appt with me and she agreed never mentioned. Which leads to my next question how does the bladder. I'm heavier then I should be and I do not want to wind up with a prolapsed bladder. Then there is all the sex life questions I have about cervix removal. UGH I know I'm stressing but having these answers would make it so much easier!!!!

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

I totally understand. I didn't know until my pre op appointment, which was only 3 days before my surgery, that I was getting the cervix yanked as well. I also found out that I wasn't going to have the laparascopic procedure, but the large abdominal one instead. I had 3 days to process and felt in the dark about everything. It totally stressed me out!

Luckily you are in great company here. I would look up the sex questions in recent pages on this forum. Lots of women posted up about their sex drives and difficulties since the hysto, you can get some great feedback here.

Any other questions, post up on here and you'll get your answers. We are here and more than willing to help you. :0)

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Hi RoeD

I totally agree with LadyAce...you do not want to put this off. I did last year, and the only thing I got from such a decision is the fact my fibroids grew so large that the only option I had was a TAH. Like LadyAce stated, by the time you get to the pre-op and they are prepping you, you will really have no time to think! By the time they took blood samples, put on your surgical stockings, and you visit with the anesthesiologist and your surgeon/doctor time really flies fast! Yes the waiting is the very hardest part. Funny but for a moment I thought that I could just run away in my hospital gown.

However, once you get the "joy juice" you will not be long for the OR, and the next thing you know its over--let the recovery and healing begin! I don't now ever regret my decision so far so good, I even feel better already!

Hugs and Prayers to you for strength...you CAN do this girl!

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Thanks again, I just spent time reading and got answers to most of my questions, so I think I'm finally calming down. I don't know what I would do without all of the wonderful princesses on this forum. I'm guessing my dr thought because my dd (a nurse) was with me, that I would know the cervix was going. I know I have an extremely large fibroid bigger than a grapefruit and rock solid so I knew it was going to be TAH abdominal cut. Thankfully, I just read that the majority have no bladder problems and they sex is even better. Here's hoping I make it through the next three days!!!! Once again thanks all, for being here when I completely lost it!!!!

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

If it's one thing I learned on here and in my own experience, is that doctors are not a wealth of info. Seems a lot of us got little info and a lot was assumed by our docs. If I didn't think to ask, I never would have known. Don't be hard on yourself. You have very valid feelings. You have every right to be confused and frustrated, and mad a bit at your doc.

Much love!

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Yeah removing the cervix never came up in my appointments either she talked alot about maybe losing the ovaries, uterus was so large she could not see them. I did not hear about the removal of the cervix until she wad checking on me the day after the surgery. I had no bladder problems and I am heavy and sex is better I think because the pain and discomfort is gone. You will be fine just take it one day at a time.

Re: So Mad I just want to cancel!!!

Hi RoeD...

I also had my LAVH due to fibroids (I was lucky enough that even though my fibroids and uterus were really enlarged my DR worked like a son of a gun to pull it all out vaginally ). I just wanted to let you know that I have actually had relief from stress incontinence after my surgery - that big, nasty fibroid was pressing on my bladder causing the problem! I also have had NO issues with my newly modified equipement as far as sex is concerned! Not only do I not notice any difference in sensation neither does my hubby.... It has been nothing but wonderful.

Hope you are starting to feel a bit better about everything and I'm sure that will work out for the best. ((((((Hugs))))))
