Is it something I should call the dr. about?

I had wicked chills sat evening. I had a bm and seeded fine after that. I got them again last night though. I feel fine. It does seem weird, especially considering the temp outside. I assume its part of healing.

Mrsarya,
I know how miserable your post was last night, but I have to say, I got tremedous comfort from it. It made me laugh. I am not the only one who is whinning on the inside. Not all crying needs an explanation so a guy can understand, we are a sisterhood, we understand. Crying for no explainable reason is sane and ok. Thank you for being so honest Hopefully today is better.

That will be the next thing I do. I'm a stylist and hate taking off work so I have to plan it just right...that's why I crazily had a hysterectomy with a breast augmentation this time. I hope your recovering well!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011

Well, it's been a week and one day since my hysterectomy (June 20th). Still a bit painful and swollen, but overall, I feel wonderful, now that my HUGE uterus complete with fibroid tumors (18cm) is gone!

Also gone is my continued risk for recurring DVTs and pulmonary embolisms. I am sitting here amazed that my legs have returned to normal size.

Prior to my hysterectomy they installed a vena cava filter to protect me against all future blood clots. So I am also thankful for that.

The ONLY big problem is that I am still without a bowel movement in almost two weeks after surgery. Been taking Senna and it hasn't worked for squat. So I am miserable on that end. No pun intended.

But overall I cannot wait to get back to my new improved self.

Eight days post-op and you are one better than me -- no BM and that is awful. And the pain meds they discharged me with were absolutely WORTHLESS. No nausea though. No chills. Just in pain all the time. I have a one-week follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow morning. Sure hope he can help with all that's not so good.

TAH/BSO on the 24th. Came home yesterday (27th). I feel pretty good. Mostly weak and tired. I was quite nauseated prior to the surgery due to the bowel prep. I was very nauseated post-op and was dry heaving on the day I was supposed to go home so I ended up staying an extra day. I'm slowly advancing my diet. I'm doing a fair amount of walking. The gas pains are much worse than the incision pain. That's about it. I wish everyone a speedy recovery.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011

Good morning Gang!!!

I"m looking forward to a day better than yesterday! Unfortunately I slept pretty poorly, because I was fretting over the pain in the top of my left leg/groin that's related to damaged/cut nerves. The doc said (via phone, my one week follow up is today) that it could take weeks to months to resolve, but searching this site is really, really scary. There are no threads that end with "YAY, THE PAIN IS GONE." They kind of peter out with "trying a new drug because the nerve block procedure didn't work".

If it weren't for that, I'd be in darned good shape. My wound is nearly healed, I can roll over to my side easily, I don't have that weird feeling of stuff trying to settle into new places in my abdomen like i did after my oopherectomy 12 years ago, I'm not feeling any menopause symptoms, and I hesitate to mention it, but I'm not feeling any swelly belly. In fact, the paunch I was developing, probably from adenomyosis - I was looking a little pregnant - is (dare I say it?) gone.

AND the people who looked at our house yesterday (after the emergency poo-cleaning thanks to an ancient (but heartbreakingly sweet) Labrador Retriever) really like it.

Things should be really really good. I just have to hold it together for a few hours until we head on down to Denver.

Mrsarya, crying jags are always welcome here. I just wish we could offer real hugs instead of virtual ones. Maybe think of the sunshine as hugs from us.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011

Lizzy,
I am so happy that the house showing went well. Poor doggy. Mine is annoying (mini wiener dog) from barking, but he gives me great comfort right now.

Mrsarya, we are here for you. I like Lizzy's explanation of hugs. Look up into the sky and know someone who doesn't even know you is thinking of you.

CrotchetDiva, two weeks without a BM is not good. You could have an impacted bowel. If it were me, I'd call the doctor today and let them know that the "cave" has not been emptied since before surgery.

All in all, I am feeling much better today. I am having issues with feeling like a lump, laying around all day, playing games on the computer. I look fine from the outside. The inside is all a mess. My DH has been awesome and doesn't make me feel that way, that's just my own assumption of myself. Not the greatest self esteem in the world but I am a work in progress. Love out to all the girls. I can't wait to hear from our new princesses.
Hugs
Angel

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011

One thing about the binder. It is a bit more comfortable to wear on day eight following surgery than it was on days two and three. My surgery was on Monday, June 20th.

It helps me to walk upright a bit more and when the nurse came in and asked me if I wanted one I loudly yelled YES!

Trying not to do too much, which is hard. I kind of overdid it last Saturday, which was just five days post-op. And I'm still recovering from having done that. Four days post-op they removed the staples and applied some tape to the incision. Still have a bit of the tape left on my right side, as the rest has fallen off.

Coincidentally, the right side is the side that hurts the most right now. Go figure.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011

My left side hurt prior to surgery. When I would cramp it would wrap around my back and to my left kidney. Scared me that I was having kidney issues. Ever since the surgery, my left side is the only thing NOT hurting now. Which is good.
