CrochetDiva - YES! The gave me morphine right out of surgery and for several hours the first day. I kept saying "I feel really drugged but the pain is horrible! Then they realized that morphine doesn't work for me. It apparently doesn't work for everyone. So then I had to wait several more hours to clear it out of my system before they could put be on Dilaudid. After that I was pain free. Now I'm on Vicodin and Ibuprphin (800mg) and I haven't had any pain at all. The morphine was a joke though. Didn't do anything for me.

You're lucky. Every time I complained to the nurses that the morphine just wasn't working they ignored me and handed me an ibuprofen.

Ridiculous. It wasn't until the end of Day #2 in the hospital that I asked for and got Percocet. Now, THAT did the trick.

Today wasn't a great day for me either. I had 3 BM's I felt like I was giving birth, and trying not to strain or push, I had to lay down for the rest of the day...geez
I also got through today without morphine , I still feel blah. Today was a sad kind of weepy day. I wonder why? I still have my ovaries.... Oh tomorrow has to be better! I really hope I can take a BM break, but I think I need a few prunes so they come out easily as my left side pulls and hurts during the process.... Sorry probably TMI..
Is anyone else noticing a slight odor from the vag-JJ ? I wonder if it would be from cauterizing and all that jazz??

I just have to say that you caused me pain. Your comment about morphine made me laugh. I have been out of surgery 6 days & it still hurts to laugh. I didn't have much pain coming out of surgery but they had morphine hooked up to my IV with a button if I needed any. 6 Hours after surgery they let me get up to go to the bathroom. The nurse told me that I would be in severe pain when I stood up so I should push the button. I pushed it then immediately stood. That was the worst thing I have ever done. If I had any food in me it would have gone everywhere. In fact, they had to catch me as the room spun and I came crashing back onto the bed. That hurt! Morphine is not for everyone!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011

Last Monday was my surgery and last week was hell! Got really sick from meds, constipated then went to full on diarhea. They banned me from pain pills which was fine cause didn't have any pain. Fever, nausea, dizziness, depressed, hot flashes.... ugh! This week has been much better.

Today's update... went to doctor cause I noticed I was not urinating normally. Tests came back with alot of blood in urine so they said I had a UTI and put me on antibiotic.

I am feeling quite well but still have no appetite. Lost 19 lbs since last Monday. I eat soup, jello, apple sauce and every now and then trying real foods like pizza and stuff but just want to gag when I have to eat. What's really wierd is the roof of my mouth hurts and is sore when I eat.. WHAT IS THAT?

My concerns are what is going to happen? What's my future hold? Whats sex going to be like? I am on Synthroid for thyroid cancer, are my levels going to go out of whack? I had endometriosis are they gonna put me on estrogen?

Very scary stuff. Hope you sisters can help me out cause support in this small town is zero.

Speed Sister, I use to live in Iowa and I can relate to the lack of support in a small town, population 230 back when I lived there. I too am on Synthroid, hypothyroidism. I never thought about my levels. They haven't needed adjustment in almost ten years. Thanks for the heads up on that. I'll have to talk to my doc about that. I haven't noticed any weird odors yet. UTI's never pick the right time to happen but I'm glad you got something for yours. I'm sorry about your lack of support but stick to this site and you will get all you need with information to help you through.

Lizzy, I'm so glad all is good. Hope you are getting some much needed rest.

For all, I think we have all been having good days and bad days. I've yet to have any emotional breakdowns. I don't want them either. But one day at a time. And I totally get the "I feel fine so I must be able to do more" train of thought. That will bite me in the tooshie for sure.
Hugs to all.

I had my laprascopic/vaginal hysterectomy done on the 23rd. I would have to say my main problem is forcing myself not to do too much. Everywhere I look I see things that need to be done however I have been pretty good and have not lifted or anything. I do have some dull pain where the uterus and cervix used to be and some pain when I pee (bladder spasms) other than that besides getting tired quickly I feel pretty good.
