Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011
Well, I finally figured out how to position the binder and I slept on my right side ALL night!! I slept so much better last night!!
I was finally able to concentrate enough to start reading again yesterday. I have to be sitting up to do so (no reading in bed at this point) but it is a start!
I too have had food issues. Some things just don't taste right and others just sound awful. Being a 40 year type 1 diabetic means I am having some serious blood sugar issues as a result. Been running way too low which is getting hubby upset with me. Gonna have to find some things I will eat and get more, I guess. About the only thing I want to drink right now is Sprite Zero (I blame the hospital for this one, LOL) so will need to get more of that too.
mistysmoke, what pain killers do they have you on? I have found that the loretab gives me strange dreams occasionally.
Need to go out and pick up the new meds doc ordered for me yesterday too. Hormones and antidepressants. Will see how those do and keep you all posted. I did have a crying jag last night which, predictably, set hubby off.
jen5234, do NOT go back to work yet!! Especially with that drive and late at night. A good way to end up setting yourself back or even killing yourself trying to drive home in pain or under the influence of pain meds if the pain got to be too much. I cannot go back to work until I have a release from my doctor...my employer won't even let me in the front door without that! Just hang in there.
Do you have netflicks? We have it streaming through the Wii so that provides some distraction. Find some oneline games to play.... look for a better doctor to do your follow up.... do you have any hobbies like needlework, etc????

Marshcrone,
Glad you figured out the binder! Mine is a 9" wide binder from the hospital that just totally wraps around my middle with a velcro enclosure on the front. I hold it on and my hubby pulls it around and connects it in the front. I want to get one that is only 6" wide for when I go back to work. This one covers from the top of my ribs to the bottom of my belly. Gives great support.
I haven't tried the Netflicks through the Wii, but I think I may check into it today. Is it easy to set up? Anyone play Facebook games? I play Fronterville and Cityville the most, not been playing Farmville as much right now.
I went to Walmart with the hubby last night for a few things. Was only there about 15-20 minutes, but did ok, moved slower than normal though lol and took a little stroll down my street last night too.

Just got out of the hospital. I have been dizzy. I also feel sickish so I'm taking gravel. Very achy back. I'm going to try a heat pad hopefully that helps

Jen5234, Going back to work this soon is a bad idea, especially with that long of a drive! I am going to do some work for my office from home next week. I can access my work computer from home and type some things up, but not making the 25 mile drive to work for 2 more weeks.
My co-worker just relocated to San Antonio on June 15 (I am in West Virginia). Her son is working in Austin and making that drive. Small world!!
Hope you're feeling better and finding something easy to keep you occupied!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011
Good grief, I slept seven hours last night in an uncomfortable position, no position is comfortable right now. Didn't take any pain meds during that time of sleeping and woke up to stiffness and incredible soreness. Ate some jello this morning and took my pain meds. Feeling a bit better but still no BM. Took my stool softener last night before bed. Hoping today will be the day. I think I'm going to get some apple juice today to help the process. All in all I keep telling myself it could be worse and in a weeks time I will feel much improved. Fingers crossed. I hope everyone else is doing well. Any suggestions for the missing BM's?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011
Well, I sure found out that nurses make terrible patients!! Haha. I was so bossy!
Had Da Vinci surgery Thursday morning to remove everything but the right ovary. I had tons of fibroids (Doc said it was a gnarly looking uterus, lol) and an 11 cm complex mass on my left ovary, which thankfully was NOT cancerous, but a cystadenoma. That was the best news of my life!!! What was supposed to be a 90 minute surgery went over 4 hours though, because the mass had completely fused itself to my sigmoid colon, and then ruptured on them during the surgery. Poor doc was soaked in sweat and exhausted afterwards!
I have been doing great, I think. Got out of the hospital around 10pm Thursday night even though they planned on keeping me, and although the pain from the gas pressure has been pretty extreme, I'm just taking Ibuprofen now and doing fine with it. I am taking Colace and hoping for a BM sometime soon, but no luck so far.
The only weird symptom I'm having is a horrible, deep "tickle" kind of feeling. It makes me jump out of my skin when anything brushes against my belly. I have always been ticklish, but nothing like this. Has anyone else experienced this? It's hard to describe, and my doctor was pretty shocked when I kept jumping any time he touched my belly at all.
It's so nice to hear how well everyone is doing this week, and that I'm not the only one who had a horribly ugly uterus! May all of your recoveries be a breeze!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011
Marshcrone, I am taking oxycodone, not sure if that is the cause of the weird dream hehe.
Woke up this morning in pain, I had woke up in the middle of the night but didn't take my ibuprofen, so had to take a oxycodone this morning. About to go back to sleep again.
I am so anxious to get back to my quilting but just don't have the attention span for anything right now. I hope it is better soon because I start a summer college course Monday. I am sure if I can just stay with the Ibuprofen I wouldn't have such an issue with concentration. I have been catching up on my recorded shows, and now that I finished that up I will be enjoying netflix while I hang out with DH in the living room.
Am anxious for Monday to get here, I get my staples out and we get the pathology report. Whole reason for hysterectomy was because the last pap was abnormal and they couldn't rule out high grade lesions (had high grade lesions in 2010). When the doctor got in there he found a cyst on my left ovary and cysts on my cervix that he didn't see during cone biopsy in 2010.
I hope everyone has an uneventful weekend. I have to keep reminding myself, the lack of activity now will benefit me in the long run.

Just sent the DH out for apple juice and stuff for chicken and dumplings tonight for dinner. He's making it. He's such a good caretaker. I'm now becoming obsessed with my lack of BM. Good grief. I know that the Percocet isn't helping with the bowel issues. But I gotta have those right now. This too shall pass. This too shall pass.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 20-Jun 26,2011
I am on day 3 of recovery. Yesterday was pretty terrible. I think it was a battle between pain management and nausea management. I had a headache and nausea all day (dry heaves a few times, but nothing to vomit), which made me less excited to take my vicodin. So then I had a headache, nausea, and pain at the surgical site. I woke up thismorning feeling so much better. Took two vicodin and now feel almost good!
I am thinking that ibuprofen is just too hard on my stomach (was alternating that with vicodin). Will have to talk to my doctor about what else to use. Hopefully the pain will lessen enough that I won't need an alternate, and the max allowable of acetaminophen (in vicodin) will be enough.
Oh, and still no BM. Seems like a lot of us are still waiting nervously for that.
