Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 27-Jul 03,2011

If your hysterectomy was between Jun 27-Jul 03,2011 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads will be moved at approximately 8 weeks post-op to the Date Club forum inside the HysterSisters clubhouse.

  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 27-Jul 03,2011

to your Post-Op Recovery Thread! You made it!

And you may be thinking "now what?"

I can remember thinking that my surgery was the "goal" that I was shooting for, and then once I was through surgery I realized that my ultimate goal was a full recovery. That turned out to be a little trickier (and much longer in my case) than I had imagined, mostly because I expected to jump back into a fully active life almost immediately! It turned out that each day I would have questions like "is that pain normal??" and "I am soooo tired, is it just me?" in addition to lots of questions about "swelly belly", bathroom events (or non-events!), and when will I feel "normal" again?

The purpose of this thread is to give you a place to update us on how you're doing as you recover and begin to heal from surgery....and to hear how other ladies who have had surgery the same week are doing. I will be hanging out with you in this thread, to keep you company during your initial recovery period (remember initial recovery is 2 to 8 weeks, depending on type of surgery with full recovery up to a year).

I will be serving as your Resource Assistant. I'll be checking in on the thread every day or so. I will be pointing you to other resources on the site as your questions come up, and sometimes directing you to forums where you might get more answers from members farther along on their recovery journey. There are a lot of resources on this site and we want to help you find them. You will also hear me repeating some of my favorite mantras like "Dust Bunnies are our friends" and "You only have one chance to heal right the first time"!

The most important things to incorporate into your initial routine are:

1. Drink plenty of water,
2. Walk a bit, often,
3. and most importantly or the couch, when your body is telling you to! Rest, rest and more rest!

I am happy to be here supporting you in your journey to post-hysterectomy health and happiness! I had the fortune of finding this website before my surgery and I leaned heavily on the wonderful ladies that come here with common fears and questions. I am now about one year post hysterectomy, and I can't think of a better way to express my gratitude for this site than by spending some time here with you.

My tvh-bso went well....started yesterday (27th) at 9am and was in my room at 2. everything is clean in there now. Descent sized fibroids too. The pain management was a different story. They finally gave me a drip and I could sleep. I'm a mess right now but I should feel better after a shower. Cathater is out and I'm trying to go on my own....no such luck yet. I had 2 night sweats last night...very odd. The vivelle dot patch goes on today.

I'm hoping I can go him today....but I need to pee and pass air first.

ladies! It's great to see you are through surgery and already posting!

Be extra patient and kind with yourself, and I'm wishing you the best in your important tasks today! I can remember how anxious I was to prove to the nurses that I was ready to go home, even though I felt abit like a small child when I pronounced that I could pee and walk "all by myself"!

Sending to each of you!

They offered me another night... but told me I could go home. I just told the aid to tell the nurse to SPRING ME! I just feel like I rest better at home.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 27-Jul 03,2011

surgery Mon June 27 9:30am in recovery room by 2:00pm. Anestesialogist was a hero.He puts in a cocktail of muscle relaxer, anti nausea and pain medicine. Morphine was my friend. My husband and sister repeated a few things I missed under the influence....

Couple of funnies: Under medication, the nurse asked me my pain on the scale from 1 to 10. Then I asked the male nurse "AS A PATIENT, HOW WOULD YOU RATE ME FROM 1 TO 10?" He laughed, said he never hear that before. BTW, he gave a 9.
The nutritionist informed me I was on a liquid diet. Disappointed, I asked for LOBSTER BISQUE. She said she has never had that request before. I said "WELL, I HAVE FINER TASTES." I have absolutely no idea where that came from.
Apparently the medication gave me a sense of humor.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 27-Jul 03,2011

Surgery June 27 Lap Hyster Uterus and cervix, kept ovaries. Had additional incision because fibroids were so large. Stayed overnight in the castle and checked out today. this website was helpful for me to 1. speak up about my pain maintenance. I did not want spinal and informed them of my low pain threshold. they were accomodating. 2. ask about extra mesh underwear, tummy bands and other amenities they may not have offered. 3. brought my own gum, and gasx. they did not want to give me anything for gas just wait and see but I took just a couple of gasx anyway to relieve the immediate discomfort.
I am at home, resting, watching tv and reading books. I feel okay for now but an consciously moving around gingerly to not upset anything. Its true, surgery 'jiggles' around your insides and it takes some getting use to. my plan is to sleep thought the pain, relax during the discomfort
