Re: Adenomyosis

I had a hysterectomy a week ago because of adenomyosis and pelvic congestion syndrome (varicose veins in the pelvis). I have to say that, in spite of the pain of recovery, I feel SO much better already. The sheer agonizing pain that I'd grown accustomed to dealing with every day is GONE. It's wonderful.
I hope that things get moving for you soon. Relief is on the way!
Much love!

Re: Adenomyosis

It looks like I will have a LAPAROSCOPYC EXAMINATION next week ... one doctor suspects endometriosis. It is considered surgery...anasthesia and all. Would they remove my uterus while they're there ? I am so bloated and in pain ...

Re: Adenomyosis

TLH = Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (this includes removal of the cervix)
BSO = Bilateral Salpingo Oopherectomy (Removal of both Ovaries and Fallopian Tubes)

TAH = Total Abdominal Hysterectomy
HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy

SilverBell - What HRT were you put on? I'm just curious. I'm going to start Premarin in a couple of weeks.

Peggy - You are not alone. This is an excellent site where you can share your story, and read a lot of similar stories. The women on here are fantastic! I wouldn't have gotten through my surgery or my recovery without all these fantastic Ladies!

I had a laparoscopic diagnostic surgery in April where all my doctor did was go in to see what was causing me so much pain. I had my hysterectomy 8 weeks later. He said that the hysterectomy required dialog and a different prep prior to surgery than the diagnostic surgery required. Hang in there! He or she wont remove your uterus without your knowledge.

Re: Adenomyosis

I was told before my diagnostic surgery that if he found endometriosis, he'd remove it and then I'd be pain free. When he went in, he discovered it was all over my small intestine, and I had fibroids on my uterus. He told us the surgery would be 90 minutes. Within 40 minutes he was out talking to my DH (Dear Husband) about what he had found. He said I was "fixable" but felt that a TLH BSO was in my best interest to be pain free, and he wanted me back ASAP.

I am a hairdresser, so I had customers scheduled already 6 to 8 weeks out. My DH told the doctor that and he said I could wait 6 - 8 weeks, but no more than that. So, I scheduled my surgery as soon as I had a break in my customers. I took 2 weeks fully off, and the following 2 weeks I worked very part time (2 customers a day). I slightly increased my hours for my 5th week of recover and was back to full time my 6th week.

My main complaint post surgery was fatigue, but there was minimal pain. I couldn't be happier. I'm telling you, my energy level is increased, the intimacy with my DH is better than ever. My sex drive is slowly returning. I didn't realize how miserable I was for the last 2 years until now. It's amazing what we grow accustomed to in our lives. The pain started slowly, and increased a little each month, and I just figured now that I'm over 40, this is what was going to be "Normal" for me. How wrong I was. What I was experiencing was NOT normal for anyone. I truly had no idea.

Honestly, prior to surgery, I had anxiety, I couldn't sleep at night, I was terrified about the unknown. Coming onto this website, I realized I wasn't alone. "Talking" to these amazing women and hearing their stories, and then hearing great stories of the "Other side" of surgery helped so much to get through that initial shock. Then I got almost excited for surgery, because the pain of my last periods was so intense. I had to take Vicodin and 800 mg of ibuprofen just to "get by". I still felt the pain, but on all that medication, it made it bearable. If I didn't take it, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't stand. I curled in the fetal position and sobbed my eyes out. It was all I could do to make it through the first 5 days of my cycle.

I look back on it, and realize how strong I truly was going through all that. I really had no idea how bad it was until now when I'm honestly pain free. I feel like I'm free!! Then to get my pathology report and find out that I also had adenomyosis on top of multiple fibroids, and endometriosis. I knew I did what was best for ME!

Hang in there and know that we are all out here rooting for you!!! We will listen to you. We understand what you're going through. And we send virtual **HUGS** to you too!!!

Endok...I'm on 1 mg of estradiol pills. Been on it for about 8 weeks now. I'm doing great with it. It fixed the night sweats, hot/cold flashes, anxiety and insomnia as well as the joint aches. I'm not planning on quitting that anytime soon if ever!! I had really bad mood swings into depression and I can NOT handle that so I love my estradiol!

Re: Adenomyosis

Silverbelle - Thanks for the information! I'm looking forward to starting my Premarin in a little over a week. I'm curious to see how it affects the hot flashes and insomnia especially. I will keep the estradiol pills in the back of my mind just in case I have too many side affects from the Premarin. I was told to take my hormone at night because if may cause nausea and headaches. I've always been prone to headaches, so I really hope that doesn't increase them. They've been so much better since the TLH.
