stopping hrt

After 8 months of being on hrt , I finally gave up 4 weeks ago after feeling suicidally depression. That has lifted but I'm really worried about the return of meno symptoms that are almost as depressing. I was on hrt for 5 years before but felt ill. When I gave up I went through hell for a year before deciding to give hrt another go.
So far the horrible symptoms havent returned but I'm wondering if my body is using up 'stored hrt'. Does anyone know how long it stays in your system and after 4 weeks can I assume that I am now safe from the return of the flushes, itchy burning skin etc.

any advice would be much appreciated !
take care everyone,
sue

stopping hrt

Sue,
What were you taking? If it was a synthetic hormone it is possible that it will take awhile to clear your system. Hormones like Premarin tend to hang around for awhile.

You do have many options when it comes to hrt. Perhaps you just didn't find the right method of delivery or the right form for you. Have you tried using progesterone with your estrogen? You will find a list of available estrogens here www.hormonejungle.com/estrogen.php Additionally if you'll go to www.hormonejungle.com and read all the pull down menus you will find alot of good information about hormones.

I'm not sure on the exact time frame as we are all different, but I would think without supplementing with estrogen the symptoms of low estrogen will return.

I'm sorry that you've had so much trouble Sue. Do come visit us in The Hormone Jungle message board. Perhaps someone there will have some suggestions of things they've tried that worked for them.

Sending some s

stopping hrt

Hi Kim - thanks so much for your reply. I was on estraderm patches 2 x 100 mcg + duphaston progesterone tablets day 17-27. Although I am sensitive to progesterone (it makes me depressed) I think I may be better off taking the two in combination all month.
At the moment I feel fine so really don't want to go back on hrt if I can help it but will research other types in the meantime.

take care sue
