8 months post LAVH/BSO...hair loss
Hi ladies
It's been quite some time since I have posted here. My surgery was April 23, 2001 and I have had a wonderful recovery. After 8 weeks I was back to my old self....and have, infact, lost 35 pounds since my surgery.....a really cool bonus! I haven't been a size 7 for 15 yrs so that part has been fun. Basically, I have felt like a new woman and think this has been the best thing I've done in yrs....no more pain, no more periods or mood swings, and sexual gratification is actually better than ever before! For all of you newbies...hang in there because it really does get better.
The one problem I've had is that my hair has been falling out like crazy ever since the surgery. I don't know if this is still considered a side effect of the surgery, hormonal changes or what. I have been on estrogen since the recovery room and feel great so I know I'm healthy. I remember seeing many posts on the board concerning hair loss when I was first posting way back in May......Have any of you experienced this hair loss so many months postop? I did have a very emotional summer due to the ending of a relationship....so maybe it's stress.....anyway, I would appreciate any feedback you all might have for me.
I also wanted to wish all of the new princesses the best of luck...hang in there.....the first 2 or 3 months my whole life revolved around my surgery....now I actually forget that I even had it.....except when someone mentions having PMS or bad cramps....and I think to myself.....Wow.....not me!!!...and I think the reason I have had such a great recovery is because I took everyone's advice and did NOTHING for a full 8 wks....it was well worth it! Happy Holidays to all, thanks and peace,
Deb :hair:

Hi Debbie!
Welcome back! I cannot share experience with hair loss, but I, like you, remember a few posts about it. You can do a search by clicking up above at the top of the window of this page on the purple search button then type in hair loss.
Hope it helps! Thanks for your kind words to the LIWs, too!

8 months post LAVH/BSO...hair loss
From my previous surgeries I experienced different degrees of hairloss. This last one was the most prevelant, but It was at it's worst about 6-8 weeks post op. Though I did get lots of great information about this topic from my stylist. She's just the best.
You mention stress, and yes, that can very well be a part of it. You also mention you've lost a bit of weight. This can also cause hairloss. It is my understanding that a dermatologist can do some analysis on your hair and come up with recommendations as to whether it is diet, hormones or what not.
A few folks have posted some products that helped get their hair back in shape from the anesthesia, for me, I used Nioxin.
At 8 months post-op, it's probably wise to consult an MD.

post op hair loss
Dear Debbie, I too am about eight months post op, I had a TAH/BSO. I feel wonderful too, I take HRT and all in all I feel great. No weight gain and minimal menopause symptoms. I have not experienced the hair loss with surgery but I did have that problem with hypothyroid so I wanted to write and mention it to you. I was very tired and my hair was coming out at an alarming rate so I asked my doctor to check my thyroid and sure enough I was hypothyroid. To check it only requires a blood test, so you might want to think about it. Good luck.

Hi Deb...glad to hear you're feeling good. You might want to ask this question in hormone jungle section too...AND do a search (icon at the top) using keyword "hair loss" in the hormone jungle section of the pull down.
