Does estrogen replacement make you more emotional?

I had a hysterectomy 7 years ago, kept ovaries, and now I am 51. Menopausal symptoms are getting worse...I was trying to go all natural, but I was feeling more and more uncomfortable....flashes, waking up at night, etc.

My gyno and internist encouraged me to start estrogen. I said I'd try. I've taken .45mg for the past week and a half...symptoms have lessened. I still don't feel like my 'old self' but have noticed that I feel more emotional...tearing up daily over all kinds of stuff, which is not typical for me.

Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks!

Your hormone levels could be fluctuating as your body adjusts to the estrogen. If things are improving that is a good sign.

Re: Does estrogen replacement make you more emotional?

I have recently been given Vagifem which has a smaller dose of estrogen. I also am more emotional, most specifically feeling sad frequently.
There do not seem to be any easy or obvious answers to these problems.
