Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

Anyone with Adnomyosis have trouble with SI joint pain? All of my doctors (gyn, PT, GP, sports medicine) all just shrug when I mention this.

I just really believe all of this is connected! However, it's hard not to feel crazy when professionals tell you it's not related.

Anyone else??

Re: Adnomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

I had my TVH on July 7 for Adenomyosis.I suffered for SI joint pain for years.Even had to go thru physical therapy for it with no relieve.I agree that doctors don't seem to think the two are connected.I was getting very frustrated being told time after time that there was no cause for all the pain I was in.Before my hyster I was on pain meds daily.Since my hyster I have taken two pain pills.I will be four weeks post op on Aug 4 and I have had so much relieve from pain.

Re: Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

I had a Laparoscopic assist TVH on July 5th. I've been diagnosed with chronic SI Joint Pain and it's the worst it's ever been since my surgery. I can't sleep because of the pain and the hot flashes. Can't hardly tolerate sitting to type this. Going back to PT on Monday hoping it will help.

Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

Yes. So glad to find this thread. Did the OP have any SI joint relief after hysterectomy? Any others out there? I have to have an MRI and see one more specialist before I can have mine.

Re: Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

I have adenomyosis/fibroids and a retroverted uterus and I can definitely relate to the si joint pain. It actually caused me to blackout from pain and taken to hospital via ambulance. I think as our uterus is so large it is pressing on certain nerves and ligaments. I find around period time and ovulation is terrible. Can handle walk and it also goes to my hips and down thighs. I get those stick on heat patches (deep heat ones are good) also physio therapy gave me a si belt which is great to use for support.

Re: Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

Yes! I completely believe they are connected even tho docs and testing could find no reason for pain either. For about 2 yrs before surgery I had SI pain, hip pain, and my legs were soooo heavy feeling. My surgery a year ago did reveal adno and those specific pains were immediately better and now pretty non existent. Too bad I have so many other pains tho !

Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

If you have adeno then your uterus is probably enlarged and heavy. An enlarged, heavy uterus pushing on your back? Yeah that will definitely cause it.

What is really going to blow your mind, an enlarged uterus pushing up your digestive tract causes heartburn, too.

If you think about it, pregnant women have siatica and heartburn. It's not from the hormones.

I also have to lean forward to pee, anyone else have that?

Re: Adnomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

After TLH I found out I also had adenomysis, I knew I had fibriods & polyps, I didn't have cramping type of pain, just heavy bleeding, clots & anemia. I still have back & hip pain, but it's been only 3 weeks since my hysterectomy. Maybe the rest will calm down.
What does SI joint pain mean?

Re: Adenomyosis and SI Joint Pain - any connection?

From what I could find, some reasons SI joint pain relates to the uterus are follows:

The most important being your uterus sits in the pelvis area and during Pregnancy, Adenomyosis and Fibroids , mechanisms stabilising the SIJ are affected. This instability allows for increased motion, stressing the SIJ.

Hormones released during pregnancy relax the ligaments of the body to allow the pelvis to enlarge, in preparation for childbirth. With that said, I wonder if while the uterus is enlarged with Fibroids, are the same hormones released constantly? As I suffered with Fibroids for as least 5+ years before my hysterectomy.

Also, with an enlarged uterus, (due to pregnancy, adenomyosis or fibroids) some of the core muscles around the pelvis get ‘stretched’ and weakened and the additional weight and altered walking pattern associated with this can cause significant mechanical strain on the sacroiliac joints, which may result in SIJ inflammation and pain.

I have learned that strengthening my core my help with my pain. I also learned that SI joint pain is mostly found in middle age women, which is very curious.

Hope this is helpful.
