Has anybody had a ruptured ovarian cyst?

I was in the ER last night with excrutiating lower right side pain. They were only concerned with ruling out appendicitis (which they did), but said it could be a ruptured ovarian cyst, right ovary. Period isn't due til Friday, but it started early (or so I thought) on Monday shortly before I headed to the ER. Now I'm wondering if it was cyst related. They did a CT scan with and without contrast, but that was it. I'm still feeling it quite a bit, in my back and front, same spot, just all the way through. I'm thinking about following up with the dr this morning but not sure if it's worth it. Spent my whole life hearing I was crazy with this stuff and I'm about done feeling crazy.

Re: Has anybody had a ruptured ovarian cyst?

Call your DR! You will feel better just knowing for sure what is going on. My sister had a ruptured cyst and had to have the overy removed. Your personal DR will get to the bottom of this for you! You're not crazy, and you are worth it! That is what your DR is there for. Best wishes.

Re: Has anybody had a ruptured ovarian cyst?

I had one a few months ago that stayed with me for 3 weeks and ruptured during the beginning of my period. I was amazed at the pain that i had with the cyst. On percocet 80% of the time. But when that thing ruptured it took two dilaudid (stronger than morphine), 1 percocet, and a phenergan sepository to get the pain under control! It was like childbirth without the child. I didn't go to the ER because I knew from the prior weeks there was nothing they could do that I wasn't doing already and I would rather ride the pain out in my own bed. After that I continued to have pain that radiated down my right leg, it hasn't let up since and this month I have developed another excruciating ovarian cyst. Some days I can't do anything. All of this is one of the reasons for my hysterectomy on Tuesday. They did move my surgery date up from September, but other than that and pain meds, there was no solution for me.
You should get it looked at though because there is a small chance a cyst can twist and cause complications, and for most people there are hormonal treatments that prevent them from returning. See a doc! And best of luck.
Prayers for you! ~Heather

Re: Has anybody had a ruptured ovarian cyst?

I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and with that comes cysts rupturing. It is very painful and I describe it as a bomb going off in your pelvis! Talk to your doctor and see what you can do to ease the pain. I like warm baths or getting in the pool. When you get in the water it feels like all the gravity has been lifted off of your pelvis. Also a heat pack helped me and of course some tylenol. Hope you get better.
