"mini periods"

Hi ladies! I am almost 4 weeks post-op from a LSH. I was having my period at the time of my surgery (naturally, since them being so loooong was part of my problem). I had just light bleeding afterward and it stopped. I was about to have a "goodbye supply" party but now I'm glad I didn't. Last Monday was about the time I would've started my period had I not had the surgery and, you guessed it, I started having light vaginal bleeding that day. What the heck is this? It has continued for a week, so far. I've read about the "mini periods" that ladies who keep their cervix sometimes have, but that sounds like just spotting for a few days. This is reminding me of "the old days" but much lighter. I saw the last Monday and told her about it. (It had just started then.) She said she thought maybe I was just over-doing things and to slow down. Well, I haven't been doing anything really. I don't clean, vaccuum, do laundry or any of that stuff. I have "bent" a little but I had a laproscopic surgery, not an abdominal one. I really think it has more to do with the time of the month. Any thoughts on this? Good heavens, I hate to think my "friend" is still going to visit me for 12-14 days every month. I know that a cervix is a vascular organ, could it still have old stuff in it that just needs to clear out? Oh, and I do have an enormous hematoma on my right side from a blood vessel that was inadvertantly cut during surgery, but I don't think that's related either. Is anybody else still having periods? Yikes! Pam in Az

"mini periods"

I had my surgery a day before you did and I'm experiencing light spotting for the past couple of days. Interestingly enough my period was due on the day of my surgery. I guess this would put me at the start of my regular cycle so I'm not sure if this is normal 4 week spotting, I'm overdoing it (which I am a bit), or my cycle.

I still have my cervix and wondered the same thing about whether this is a mini-period. I have the same headachey feeling I normally got with my period, so maybe it is...

Of course, it's extremely light (panty liner is more than sufficient) and I don't have horrible cramps.

I have a doc's appt. next week and will ask.

Thanks for your response. I'll try to be patient (not one of my strong points, I admit) and see what happens. I go for my 6 week checkup in 2 weeks so I hope it will be over by then. If not, I guess I'll mention it again. Pam in Az

Time for me this week

My SAH was 9/21. Oct 1 & 2 I had some spotting, again 10/24 and 25, again Nov 18,19 so I'm expecting another day or two of very minimal (I notice it on the tp, a liner is more than adequate) spotting again later this week. My doc was very careful about "cutting down very low" and cauterizing the top of the cervix since my problems were hormone related that we couldn't get under control with medication (used to bleed 25 - 25 days out of a month). So even if your doc is very very careful, you can indeed have spotting every month. But I've read here recently that some ladies who had the cervix removed have been have some spotting and bleeding, so I don't feel too upset about my decision for subtotal since I feel so much better than I did before surgery.

A side note - I did have some blood vessel "blow outs" on the vaginal side of my cervix post surgery (and I was a good girl who followed dr's orders about nothing in the vagina, so we have no idea what caused that problem) that had to be cauterized twice before my 6 week check. With this in mind, you probably NEED to bring this problem to your dr's attention and hopefully get checked while the problem is happening, not when it has stopped. Its too hard to diagnose what happened "last week".

"mini periods"

Well, I'm on day 9 of this weird period now. I go to the on Monday. I seem to be the only one doing this post op period thing. :confuse: It's just like a light period, not what I'd really call spotting. I had to switch from panty liners to small reg pads (never thought I'd be buying those again). Grr.. :burning: The dr did mention something about cauterization but then said we didn't need to go there yet. (That was on day 1.) Does it hurt? It's on the vaginal side of your cervix, right? What about that silver nitrate I hear about? Is that just something for the ladies who had their cervix's out and have a scar up there? Pam in Az
