IBS and Hair Loss

I'm now nearly 7 months post op... Feeling great.. The only issues I have is IBS since the surgery and alot of hairloss, even to the point that my hairdresser has made a comment. I did have my dr do blood work but every thing looks fine. Im not the only one, a girl at work also had a total hysterectomy 3 months ago.. She is having the same problems.

Please advise your solutions, that is if we are not the only ones experiencing these issues.

Other than that, I havent felt better.

Wishing all a Merry Christmas!

Hi PABR!

I am going to move your post to the Road Less Travelled where you will get more responses from ladies as post op as you are. You might also want to post this question in the Hormone Jungle as this may be related to hormone imbalance, too.

Hoping you get some ideas to help!

IBS and Hair Loss

Pabr,
Did the doc check your thyroid? Hair loss can be a sign of a thyroid imbalance. You can read more about it here www.hormonejungle.com/thyroid.php Please note at the end of article there are some specific tests that should be run, not just the TSH.

If thyroid is okay, you might want to look into adding Evening Primrose Oil and Fish Oil. EPO has helped restore my hair to it's pre-hyst glory. You can read more about it here www.hormonejungle.com/primrose.php

I have IBS and have had it for years. I've recently read that it is not uncommon for IBS to appear after a hyst. Unfortunately there is no cure for IBS. There are some new meds out there that the doctor can try. Have you seen a gastrologist?

IBS and Hair Loss

PABR, Hi.

You have my sympathy....

I too suffer from IBS since surgery and thinning hair. I do not have to shave my legs or underarms any more. Nothing there.
Threw the razor away a few weeks ago. My age might have a little to do with it, but most of this all came about after surgery. The pain of the IBS is horrible, I really have to watch what I eat and not much at a time. No iced cold food or raw fruit or veggies. Looks like chocolate is out now too.

Best wishes and Happy holidays.

IBS - HAIR LOSS

Pam,

The only meds I have been on was Premarin, now Im using a patch I change x2 per week for hrt. I took my mother to her GYN today, I asked her why the hair loss? She said I may need more trace minerals such as zinc and selenuim. When I had blood work done, they checked for thyroid, etc.. everything was normal.

As for the IBS, will this tend to go away with time?

Thank You for your imput.

Happy Holidays!

IBS and Hair Loss

Patty, sadly, IBS does not 'go away'. I have been reading about it because I was recently diagnosed with it. You can 'manage' it, but it doesn`t ever go away. I was placed on a high fiber diet to help the symptoms. So far the last 2 days have been a bit better, but I tend to be going alot more than usual. Maybe things will calm down. I just had a colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy so the bowel prep stuff may still be affecting me.

Are you having constipation? Do you know what foods set you off? You might keep a diary of everything you eat and your bowel habits for a month and see if there is any pattern. That might help you to find a diet that suits you. I don`t mean diet like to lose weight...I mean eating foods that don`t set the IBS off.

Wishing you healing.....

The diary is a good idea. I did that years ago and have learned that dairy products are a big as are yeast products. My main problem is constipation and bloating and swelling.
