Why am I now craving chocolate?

I am two weeks post-op. For about a week I have been craving chocolate. Snack-pack pudding and hershey bars. I even ate some cake my hubby brought home from an office dinner. I hated sweets before surgery. I may have eaten a piece of cake at my aunt's house at Christmastime once a year up until now. Does anybody know if this is normal? I'm gonna look like a giant Hershey's kiss if I keep THIS up!

Love,
Valerie

Why am I now craving chocolate?

LOL well I love chocolate, but I can not get enough of peanut m&ms and that is not something that I usually eat. To make matters worse I really do not like sponge candy. Well we bought a box for a neighbor and guess what I sat here one day and said ok the box is telling me to open it. Well that was the last of that box (but did have help eating it). So we bought another and hubby ran it next door.

Why am I now craving chocolate?

Hi - can't help you with the chocolate cravings!! Because I loved it before my surgery and still do!!! I guess like with anything else, listen to your body, give it what it needs and relax and rest, and drink lots of water!!!! Is this recovery period grueling or what!!??

I can't wait until I am myself again!

Hang in there,

Why am I now craving chocolate?

Hey Valerie

I believe craving sweets is a sign of too much estrogen - are you on any HRT?

But I also think we get cravings post-op for other, maybe unknown reasons

In my case for the first week post-op all I wanted were Krispy Kreme doughnuts and McDonald's cheesburgers (not at the same time thankfully I don't allow myself those "luxuries" usually but for that one week I did and I still lost weight. It was a little slice of heaven for me

Best wishes on your recovery.

Why am I now craving chocolate?

Hi Valerie!
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about! Not only have I been craving chocolate, but ANYTHING sweet. I never even really liked sweets before my surgery! Go figure! My mom is a nurse, and she says that she absolutely believes that your body craves what it needs. I really didn't "need" the 10 extra pounds that I've put on!

Why am I now craving chocolate?

Sorry Folks, But I have it on the best authority [researched this sucker all evening at the local hospital]......that estrogen is too LOW, that is why we crave chocolate.
Chocolate contains phytoestrogens...this is why many women get cravings before theri periods....the time when estrogen drops the most!
I increased the soy intake....that stopped the cravings! Soy is a natural source of phytoestrogens.
There you have it....4 drs and 7 nurses later....the answers! Check those levels gals....or jsut eat the chocolate and walk it off!

Why am I now craving chocolate?

Dear "Peanut"

I guess the Hormone Jungle "Too Much Estrogen? Too Little" is wrong then because that is where I saw that craving sweets means there might be an abundance of estrogen. Should we tell them to change their information?

mmmmmm chocolate

I also graved chocolate at 2-3 weeks post-op couldnt get enough of it. I never had this problem before surgery I might add. But now at 7 weeks this graving has disappeared thank goodness cause I work at a convenience store and am surrounded with chocolate bars yuck, and have just started back to work part-time for now and will be full-time in the new year. So hopefully this graving will also pass for you.

Good luck in your recovery.

Why am I now craving chocolate?

Thanks for the knowledge. Do ya'll think I should tell the doctor? I'm losing weight steadily so I'm not really worried - yet. I have one ovary, but maybe is "asleep"?
