swollen feet and ankles

just got up to pee and do circuit around house and realized my feet and ankles are swollen up like little sausages, esp my right foot and ankle. This is normal right? I was thinking maybe it is because I am sleeping in a semi upright position on recliner?

Re: swollen feet and ankles

My feet were a little swollen the first day or so after surgery but it did go down after several trips to the bathroom and once I started walking a bit. I also kept myself at an inclined position and my legs would start to cramp up if I didnt keep them moving so I would do like a tiny duck paddle while I was sitting just to keep the circulation going.

But its also possible you may be having an allergic reaction to meds if your on any but I would think if that were the case your hands would be swollen as well.

Re: swollen feet and ankles

I was swollen after my surgery too. My legs, ankles, and feet were really swollen, even after I came home from the hospital. I sat in a recliner with my feet up, and it felt better that way. Before long, the swelling went down, but now, I don;t remember how long it took.

Re: swollen feet and ankles

Hi there! It sounds like fluid retention to me, I'm going through the same thing. How's your urine output? Make sure you're drinking plenty of water to flush it out of your system, and try to avoid sodium until it goes away. I also found that wearing the compression stockings I had in the hospital helped with the puffiness, as well as keeping my feet elevated.

But it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor, just to be sure.

Hope this helps! Best wishes!!

Re: swollen feet and ankles

My feet and legs and hands were swollen during the first few days after surgery, also. Drinking water, taking short walks and getting the rest you need will take care of it.
