Pre op appt. today, davinci on 28th

So, I was pleasantly surprised at my pre op appt. today to find out that I don't have to do a liquid diet or bowel prep. Woo-Hoo !!! Having a divinci supracervical hysterectomy on the 28th (provided everything goes according to plan). Only special instructions is no more ibuprofen and nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I was so relieved to not have to jump through a bunch of hoops, this is stressful enough.

Re: Pre op appt. today, davinci on 28th

That's great news! Every doc has their preferred method. The Davinci is great and I only have 5 little 1 inch scars. There was still a 4-5 week recovery period so be prepared for that. And no lifting etc for 6 weeks even with the davinci. It is less intrusive but there is still lots of healing that is going on internally so take it easy. It was less painful than I thought it would be but the recovery was longer...Good luck

she have me my post op prescription so I can have it for when I get home. She only gave me enough for 3 1/2 days. Maybe I am a big baby but I am afraid of still being on a lot of pain 3 out 4 days post op, my last c section was 3 weeks before I could go back to just advil and tylenol. How long did u need the strong meds for????

What did she give you? If it was prescription-strength ibuprofen, you can take 600 or 800 mg worth of regular OTC ibuprofen - my dr always had me do that to save on $$. Generally 600. BUT ASK YOUR DOCTOR first. At the very least ask "what if" you need more than 3 days worth of drugs. Best wishes!

Re: Pre op appt. today, davinci on 28th

I had davinci about 7 weeks ago. My doc only gave me about 3 days worth of meds too. Initially I was worried about it, but, I didn't even use them all. He suggested I alternate between the Norcal and ibuprofen, so that's what I did, and I felt it worked well to control my pain. I really didn't have an extreme amount of pain. The gas pain was worse than any abdominal pain I had. I think a lot of doctors are much more conservative now with prescriptions for painkillers in general.

Re: Pre op appt. today, davinci on 28th

I was off the strong pain meds in about 3 days also. My main concern was that the pain meds can cause constipation and BMs are one of the major concerns after surgery. Getting that system working is a challenge for some. I know I have talked more and thought more about BMS in the last 5 months than my whole life before.lol I couldn't take ibuprofen at all so I was really worried but the tylenol took care of it. The pain is very manageable and not as much an issue as fatigue, and other things. Make sure you have your stool softener and some Miralax at home pre surgery also. Gas X too!. Once I got those issues under control it was pretty much a cinch. But they were definately a challenge the first 3 weeks. Pain....not so much. Good luck
