Day 4 post op. DVH

I really enjoyed your post LUV2HUM. I think you hit the nail on the head with it being hard to read some posts. I know I should be happy for others that had a better experience and /or a faster recovery, but truthfully, I can't bear to read some of them. I know it's wrong of me to feel that way, and I don't even think I consciously realized I did feel that way until I read your post. I've hardly slept the past 5 nights and I know that the lack of sleep on top of the pain is making me miserable. Hopefully I will get more comfortable at night and be able to sleep and start being happy for my fellow sisters like I know I should! Thanks again!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011

hello sisters
Had a vag hysterectomy Oct 19 removed uterus and cervix left ovaries.
Apparantly my bladder was attached to my uterus and had to be separated.
Had a rough recovery period couldn't get pain under control once out of recovery continued to be rough as anything good enough for the pain made me vomit...the nurses were just giving me extra strength tylenol and advil...I was in so much pain! Finally 24 hours after I came out of anaesthesia my tummy settled and was able to try some morphine.
I was kept for two nights and then sent home, where things are slowly getting better. I am very gassy and sore but have been having daily BM's for three days now. No spotting since the 36 hour mark. I am doing better but get tired very easily swelling is pretty bad my flat tummy isn't flat any more I am trying not to be sad I know it is temporary. One question I have is the nurse said to change pantyliners every three hours even when there is no discharge to prevent infection but when can I stop doing this I am starting to chafe.
more later and thank you
trinket.

Trinket- I'm chafing, too. I didn't realize we should change the pad every 3 hours. I typically change it every 4 hours...but not during the night.

Since I do wake up during the night, I will remember to change my pad.

I try to air out a little bit after my daily shower lying on a clean towel that helps a little but still chafing and of course no ointment for us!
Every three hours, pain pill, pee and pad LOL I set my timer on my iphone so I don't sleep through LOL if I miss a pain pill LORD is it hard to get it back under management!

Sassy- I'm 7 days out and still having pain. The gyn nurse said that's normal (as long as the pain isn't severe.)

Sassy, I would say your doc is wrong; he isn't in your shoes, and he doesn't know. That's just my humble opinion, of course, but your pain is your pain. There is NO WAY that I'm going to listen to ANYONE ever again tell me that my pain doesn't exist - or not. I went through that for 18 months (and some of these ladies have done it for 18 years!) and I know my body. I was told that I'm too stressed, that I work too much, that I have gastrointestinal issues, and that (here's a doozy) "That's just what happens as we age. It's hell to be female sometimes. ::at-pat on the top of the head:::"

If you are in pain, you need meds. There is no excuse in today's world for having unnecessary pain. Discomfort, yes - it can't be avoided, given the circumstances - but pain? Never.

<phew> That was a heckuva rant.

Best of luck to you - and I wish you speedy recovery.

Is really wishing I was doing as well as some of the ladies on here. Kinda frustrated. I lost a lot of blood during surgery (had to have 2 units of blood) and they removed a watermelon sized fibroid on the 18th. Not sure if its just because of the things the had to do or what. Seems like some of you have had a lot of reconstruction and are still doing better.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011

Everyone heals different....
There was times in my past surgeries (3 c-sections) that even after 6 weeks I was sick and hurting...
I know how hard it is to see post of people feeling better than you may be feeling. This is not about how "Sue" or "Jane" is healing but about how each one of is healing and what are the needs at the time.
It may take longer but you will heal. It may take extra meds, or extra rest, or even extra medical procedures but we will all heal....
I feel bad for those that are hurting. At night I say an extra prayer for each of you...
Please do not discouraged because someone is driving or cleaning or feeling OK.... Like I said in the start of this. Everyone heals differently.

Hugs and healing prayers for each of you ladies.
