Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011
I had my surgery the 19th and today a week later I feel physicaly great , on the other hand my mood is like a rollercoaster. I kept my overies and cerv so why am I so cranky?
My Dr used surgical glue on my bellybutton and it is slowly pealing away. I had to take a lot of stool softener but after 2 days had 2 bowel movements but right back to clogged up again. I have had hot flashes and night sweats(when I can sleep) and I'm hit with sudden fatuige but I hear that is normal. Hope my mood swings get under control for the sake of those around me Good luck everyone!

Long, long ago in a far, far away land (pre hyster), I was told by seemingly everyone involved in my pre-op that they couldn't quite tell Me what it would be like for Me because 'everyone is different.' And the surgeries are different . . . I had a daVinci hyster but also a vaginal and a rectal surgery . . . lasted almost 6 1/2 hours in the OR, .. .. All that to say, don't be discouraged if you read of someone having more 'good' days than you . . . this is a learning experience for all of us . .. a time to get to know ourselves. . . not to 'kick against the goads' . .. 'resistance is futile' It is a time to rest. . . yes, even you sweet Tiffany . . . you will hold your little guy . . . . but you just gave birth to him less than 2 years ago . . . . your body has been through a real roller coaster. . . . and an older hystersister told me wisely enough that healing is not linear .. . . and of a truth, there are no 'bad' days. . . just days when your body needs some extra rest . . . we all have our images which unfortunately and inevitably conflict with reality . . . ignore your images. . . embrace your reality and work with it . . .not against it. My current reality is that I'm convinced some part of the robot has been left inside me and is performing science experiments. . . . the sounds my stomach is making can be heard across rooms . . . all is well and all will be well.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011
I had my Davinci 10/20. Had everything removed. I ended up with a significant vaginal insult as well. My uterus was "huge, extremely huge" according to my DR. I have much more pain than I expected gas, incisional, positional. I have peed well and BMs are present and unpleasant pain-wise. I'm worried that I will be denied a request for an additional narc script because everyone but me seems to be sailing through this pain free. All this being said, I see significant improvement each day with the exception of the vaginal discharge -yuk! But even that is tolerable. Anyone else feel as I do! Best wishes to all....Sharon

You are NOT alone -- I'm not zipping through this pain free, and I'm sure there are several others who would say the same! I tried to switch over from percocet to OTC ibuprofen, but the pain didn't subside much with the OTC. I guess I'm happy I can go 6-7 hours now instead of 4 hours on the dot.

Ladies, here's a tip that worked for me: for those having trouble "going", citracel/metamucil seems to really work!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011
Thank You for your affirmation.
My swelly belly is currently swollen and bloated up to my rib cage and still carrying on one wild concert in there. Spoke with my local pharmacist and my surgeon and both agreed and encouraged the use of simethecone which is also known as phazyme, gas ex, etc. Off to Walmart my wonderful husband is to hopefully bring me back relief from a product which consistently receives 5 star ratings. I will be Sure to post if this works. I wonder at times if the gas pain isn't as bad as the surgical pain~it truly is hard to tell the two apart! My surgeon has no problem giving more percocet but I'll know by tomorrow if I really need it or if most of the 'pain' was caused by the gas. Digestive enzymes didn't do it for me to my shock and awe .. .. again, blessings on you for your affirmation. . . I want my home to be known as 'Affirmation Station" . . . loads of love and will report my 'results' tomorrow.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011
I had three weeks between getting the surgery scheduled and actually having it, and I spent just about every spare moment reading this site like a roadmap. The recovery progress reports were like trips into my future, and with every positive post I read, I became braver and more confident.
Yeah - it's true that my recovery has been easier than most sisters'. Most of you have more complicated situations than mine, and it has got to be frustrating to see others recovering more quickly. The purpose of my "Hey, look how great I'm doing!" progress report was to encourage those who are waiting nervously for their procedure. This is definitely doable. No, not easy. But you can get through it.
Still waiting for someone to tell me when this weight gain will go away!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Oct 17-Oct 23,2011
Hi everyone, I had just my uterus and cervix removed vaginally 8 days ago. I still have ovs. Suregery went as planned, no cutting abdominally. I stopped needing anything for pain five days after suregery. I still had some discomfort but it was more like light period cramps. I could feel a little tugging at the top of the vagina where the stitches are, but it was nothing terrible. There has been low back discomfort from the start, but today it is almost gone...unless I am on my feet for too long...or sitting at the computer for too long. I did have an issue with my blood pressure dropping when I would lie down ... I would feel "strange" and be able to tell something wasn't quite right. Then upon standing, I would get dizzy and my heart rate would race. I was still doing this on day 6. The surgeon said anesthesia is most likely the cause and should be out of my system by the two week mark. I am supposed to drink a lot of water and even up my salt intake (can you believe it?). So, overall feeling much better today, drove for the first time and it was fine.
