Waiting for biopsy results.....
So I had my appointment yesterday with the ob/gyn about my thickened uterline lining. I didn't realize they were going to do the biopsy yesterday (I thought it was just a consult). Anyways....they did the biopsy, which I didn't think was too bad. Granted I was happy when they were done but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. So now I wait for the results and they are supposed to call to schedule another ultrasound where they fill the uterus with saline to get a better look. Doc says it won't hurt as bad as the biopsy, which is good.
The doctor said my first ultrasound showed the thickened lining and also some abnormal spots that look like fluid filled pockets or cysts maybe. Has anyone ever had this and if so, what was the diagnosis??? Doctor didn't say much, other than it could be something but it could be nothing. He said alot of times thickened lining is due to hormone imbalance but he doesn't think that is the case for me. Then he said there are a few ways to treat, maybe hormone therapy (although if it isn't due to hormone imbalance in my case I'm guessing that wouldn't be the treatment) or they could go in and destroy my endometrial lining, whatever that means.
I was hoping to have a little more information after my appointment yesterday but guess I just gotta wait now and see what the tests show. Waiting really stinks...your mind really plays games with you.
Thanks for any information any of you might have and have a good day all

Re: Waiting for biopsy results.....
By destroying your endometrial lining, they might mean endometrial ablation. Basically, it burns off the lining and seals the inside of your uterus so the lining won't grow back and you won't bleed anymore. If that's what they want to do, I strongly urge you to get a second opinion.
When my biopsy came back clear, my gyn thought my thick lining was caused by hormone imbalance. That was a very reasonable assumption and for most people, it' would've been true. However, she decided not to do endo ablation because if there was cancer in there which had been missed, it would be hidden and wouldn't be discovered until it had spread elsewhere.
Thank god she didn't do ablation because I did have cancer and it had already spread to ovary. It probably wouldn't have been discovered until it was too late.
There's a good chance you don't have cancer but it's important to get as much info as you can. Good luck.

Re: Waiting for biopsy results.....
I'm sorry that your results were not good. How did they find the cancer if the biopsy was normal? What made them look further? I'm guessing if my biopsy comes back normal they will do no further testing....did you ask them to test further? I'm not really good at speaking up at the doctors as I get very intimidated when I am there. They are going to do another ultrasound with saline....do you think this might give them more information? I am sooooo confused over this whole thing because I hear many people saying that their initial endometrial biopsy came back clear and they ended up having cancer. What do you suggest I do if the biopsy comes back clear and they say I'm all set??? Should I ask them to do further testing?
Thanks for replying to me, I really appreciate it as I really don't have many people to talk to about this. I don't want to worry my daughter or mom so I haven't said much to them and my husband is not home at the moment as he is working away due to the bad snowstorm we had here in the Northeast this past weekend. He is a lineman and will be gone for some time until everyone's power is restored so I am home alone right now so I appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with all of the women on this site.
Thanks again.....

Re: Waiting for biopsy results.....
I had been suffering from heavy bleeding for years, so my gyn recommended a hysterectomy and I was happy to get one. My cancer was found in the pathology report after surgery.
I think the US with saline will give more info. My gyn told me endo biopsy only misses a cancer 5% of the time. If you're looking here on the forum it might seem like it's more often but that's only because the people who post here had cancer. The ones who didn't won't keep posting.
If the endo biopsy is clear, one more option is a D&C. It's considered the definitive test for endo cancer because it takes more tissue for the pathologist to look at. You could also ask for a referral for a second opinion.
I have trouble speaking up at the doctors too. Try to take someone with you, like your husband or a friend or family member. Write down your questions ahead of time and ask your support person to help make sure you get answers. S/he might come up with some good questions of their own.
My dad was a lineman too. Every time there was a big snowstorm or tornado, he'd be gone for days. I'm sorry this turned out to be such rotten timing for you.
I'm sure some of the other members will be along soon. Keep posting.
