My hormonal ups and downs , PMDD, and the heavy bleeding were the reasons I chose to have a hysterectomy. The waiting for surgery day was one of the hardest parts for me. The day of surgery I took a valium while waiting in the pre-op room so I was pretty woosy by the time it was time for surgery.
I had asked the staff to tell me when they were administering the stuff to make me sleep and they did and my gyno held my hand while they were preparing me and till I went to sleep.
My surgery took about 1.5 hours, they took everything. DSoc said my uterus was 240 grams when a normal one is around 80 grams so i guess it was quite large and he said that probably was one reason for my discomfort. I would have thought they would have noticed it during my paps and such but I will ask him about it at my weekly visit on Wednesday next week.
The catheter hurt, really hurt at first and I complained, begged, pleaded...lol...but as the demorall got into my system that lessened, believe me I hit the button every ten minutes. I got to keep it till shortly before i went home the next day then they switched to percosett, that seemed stronger and took all the pain away. They took my catheter out at 6AM the day following surgery and I peed just a little so i started drinking water like crazy and sprite zero. seemed like the sprite zero helped me belch which helped with the gas.I used the blow tube quite often. I took stool softner at the hospital and gas x. The donut pillow helps the lower back when sitting in the bed.
They let me go home around 2pm the day after surgery, i was pee'ing on my own bunches. it hurt a little to walk but not too bad. Still no BM but was taking stool softners.
Yesterday I was sore and crabby . I was tired and it seemed that I couldnt get comfortable. I upped the stool softners...lol...Big mistake or maybe not, I spent all day on the toilet (by the way one of those 5 inch toilet seats you can find at walmart in the medical section are a lifesaver). By all day, I mean all day. Went to bed at 7:30 PM was back up at 10PM back on the toilet.
Woke up today, day 4...feel great. Am 10 pounds lighter (really...lol) I showered nearly got all the benzodine or whatever it is off my belly. My incisions you can hardly see. I'm not hurting hardly at all and have been taking it easy catching up on computer things. Thanks to all you ladies for all of the advice, it all helped so much!
