For years I have been having crippling pelvic pain, and in march of this year I started having uncontrolable bleeding where I would bleed about 22 day a month. I saw my gyn who initally thought it might have been me going thru early menopause, but after sending me for a sonogram and then a MRI, adenomyosis was diagnosed in late august. Surgery was scheduled and I had to wait 7 weeks for my surgery to take place. On the day of surgery my mom came with me for support, and our neighbor who is also our friend and pastor waited with me in the pre-op holding room, which made time fly. My Dr came in and talked to me, and prayed with me and my family before taking me into the OR. All I remember is my Dr holding my hand as drifed off to sleep. When I awoke, I was in the most severe pain that I have ever felt, and my nurses were excellent because I never had to wait for them to give me pain meds. The cathether caused the bulk of my pain, and I had a very sore throat and mouth because of the difficulty they had trying to place in the breathing tube. I still have a lot of bruising in my mouth and throat as a result. That night was a tough one, but the next day I was feeling better, and was released from the hospital around 2pm. Since I have been home my pain has been minimal, but going to the bathroom has been a challenge because of the soreness. As soon as I was able to, I got on hystersisters.com and started asking questions on how to make this transition easier, and I found all the answers I could have ever wanted, and have also found plenty of moral support from others who have gone thru this. I am soooo glad that I had my hysterectomy, bleeding constantly for almost a year was taking my life away, and now that I am free from adenomyosis I cant wait to get my life back.
