Re: Depression and bad dreams after surgery

Its so weird ,i can only sleep for two hours because im afraid to sleep again. Im taking sleeping pills every other day to help me sleep and not have nightmares. Im having trouble sleeping since my surgery and now getting a bit of cramps like im getting my period soon. Everything is so weird!

Re: Depression and bad dreams after surgery

Yes, I had terrible nightmares, especially the first night home. one so bad it startled me awake and was afraid I might have hurt myself b/c sat up so suddenly...thought it was b/c of coming down off of the morphine? It will get better....try a meditation cd to relieve some anxiety also, sounds funny but my DH brought me a stuffed animal when I was in the hospital and it was so nice to have something to snuggle for comfort...
good luck and hugs

Re: Depression and bad dreams after surgery

I had horrible nightmares. I realized it was from my pain meds. I opted to be in pain rather than continue to have the bad dreams. If my pain was too bad my dh cut a pill in half and we slept with the lights on. Once I stopped the pain meds, they went away.

Re: Depression and bad dreams after surgery

I wasn't expecting the nightmares. Tisaytisay, I was like you. I stayed up until 3am one night just so I wouldn't have bad dreams. Actually most of my dreams were more like stress dreams on steroids. The dreams seemed to have past - I hope

Re: Depression and bad dreams after surgery

I only had nightmares preop, none postop. I am still having a terrible time getting a full nights sleep though. I wake up about 2:00 am every day and stay awake until I get up for work at 5:00 am. I am very sad about the surgery as well.

Re: Depression and bad dreams after surgery

I was suprised to have the same reaction with the pain meds that I did when I had appendectomy. I had nightmares on the same medication after that surgery and hysterectomy. I called the drs office and they switched me to a different pain med. It was really scarey and it did keep me from sleeping until they switched me.
