Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 05-Dec 11,2011

Hi HysterSisters,
I had my laproscopic hysterectomy Dec 7th....7 weeks ago today. This is my first time going through everyone's posts. I'd like to thank everyone for their touching stories! I started my period at 11 years old...I'm 45 now...and my periods were always 7 days long and very strong. I had severe anemia for years. Two years ago I had endometiral abblation to stop the maddness. Well, it stopped the bleeding, but I continued to have severe cramps - almost contraction like. Come to find out, not only did I have several fibroid tumors, but one was on a "stem" - pediculated. It was twisted and causing me excruciating pain. So, my doctor and I opted for a hysterectomy. During surgery, the doctor also found out that both of my fallopian tubes had fluid in them...plus I had lots of scar tissue and adhesions from my emergency appendectomy last year. Yikes! There was a lot going on in there that was causing me tons of pain. Now at 7 weeks post op, I'm wondering when I'll be back to "normal." My bladder and intestines are still sore (my intestines had scar tissue that had been adhering to the back of my abdominal cavity and had to be removed as well). Some days I feel great; other days I'm sore and tender. I guess I'll wait for that majic 8 week feeling. Wishing everyone the best as you recover and get back to living life to the fullest! Take care!

Good luck to you. While I'm only 6 weeks post-op, it's already been one heck of a journey.

Had my TAH on dec 5 kept ovaries. Recovery has been going well last couple of weeks and I have my 8 week check on next tuesday. The only issues I am having is bladder issues still have pressure pain every time I go pee and when my bladder is full...it is PAINFULL!! I have also had a couple of incidents of leaking...yuk. Cant wait to talk to dr about this.
There is one other issue that just started about a week ago but has gotten really bad. Itchy nipples!! I am not sure if it is a pms sympton since I kept my ovaries, but if it is.....wouldn't that only last a few days??? I tried to change my bra twice today and they still itch so bad that they feel bruised from my scratching! Anyone else have this problem???? I just had a mammogram a week ago and all came out clear......I just cant stand the itching...I am tempted to rub some benedryl creal all over them

Well today wasn't such a good day, I got out of my van and slipped on the ice in a parking lot. I didn't fall but it was enough that I felt a definate pain. I have been sore all day and for the first time since leaving the hospital 7 weeks ago I have pink discharge how would I know if I really tore something inside? Would it be really bad pain?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 05-Dec 11,2011

Hi everybody, just caught up on posts from the last week, we had house guests and I didn't have time to check in. 7 weeks post op today and feeling pretty good.

I do get tired after doing too much, but I'm not quite sure at this point if it's from still recovering or from lack of doing! I still have some swelly belly and do not want to wear clothes that snug on my tummy, but that could be from belly claustrophobia, due to the last 7 weeks of wearing loose things! Lol! I still want to live in my PJ's! Had my 6 week post-op last week and dr said all looks good, 2 more weeks for intercourse(1 more week now!) and hubby has his calendar marked. Little bit nervous about it, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Now, time for confession, I don't want to let go of my princess status yet! I like being pampered! I like taking a nap now and then (without guilt!) I like watching the food network on a weekday afternoon!(haven't done at in a couple of weeks, but now I am missing it! Haha). I like hubby getting me a pillow for behind my back when we sit down to watch TV...how long do you think I can milk this now that I'm feeling much better? Hm?

P.S. I'm 48, same issues as most (fibroids, extreme periods most of my life, etc.).

Had my 7 week follow up and can resume my regular routine! I'm looking forward to getting back to work and spending special time with my husband. Feeling good and want to continue to take care of myself, so will try not to push myself like I usually do!

I am 42. After 3 c-sections my uterus was attached to my abdominal wall and my bladder was completely attached to the uterus and cervix.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 05-Dec 11,2011

I am 46. For the last couple of years I have gone two or three months without a period. Then I'd have one that would last 2 or 3 weeks. I had spotting/light bleeding after intercourse. I was wetting my pants when I couldn't get right to the bathroom. And I was getting up 5 or 6 times a night even on Vesicare.

I had a pap last Feb come back with irregular cells. They did an u/s on me & found endometriosis and a golf ball size cyst on my right ovary. At that time they said do a repeat in 3 months. Didn't make it back in until July. Cyst then had grown to baseball size. Advised to remove right ovary, but I put it off. Started having pain in September. Went in October & cyst was grapefruit size. Plus pap still showed irregular cell growth. Dr suggested an abbelation or hysterectomy. I asked what she really advised & she said if we didn't do a complete hysterectomy I would just be back to see her in a couple of years with more problems. I trusted her & so far am so happy I did.

For the most part I feel really good. I have been back to work fulltime 13 hour days this week. Last week on our cruise, I walked alot, went snorkeling, swimming, parasailing and kayacking. The only thing I haven't done yet is sex (all though, boy do I want to).

So far no menapause symptoms. I feel very lucky & pray I don't get any.

Thanks so much for all your stories and support.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 05-Dec 11,2011

A few mixed recovery stories this week! I had a brilliant week between weeks 5 and 6. Then I had an awful time just when I returned to work. Hot flashes that lasted an hour each. I only had an hour in between each for 48 hours. Couldn't sleep or function as well as lots of discomfort and tiredness.

Happy to report I had two really good days and the first days without taking any over the counter pain meds or need to use my hot water bottle! It's been such a relief and filled it 5-8 times a day!! Tired and sore today but I have been running around a lot and shopping so not unexpected. Hopefully last week was last week and I'll continue to improve. Dr did keep saying my surgery was really difficult and he expects 8 week recovery so nearly there. Two more days at work then off on a family holiday planned months ago for a week.

Hope you're ok Misty and phonegal!

Good luck to everyone and keep well
