Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 12-Dec 18,2011

I hope everyone is doing well. I have been busy with a very full schedule at school. I still feel my tummy when I'm working out and still have swelly belly so still living in stretch pants. It's funny because I've lost 6 lbs and toned up a bunch and still can't always fit into my fat jeans.

I had the first migraine in about 8 years yesterday. I hope they aren't returning. My usual triggers are hormones and stress. While I'm busy I'm not super stressed.

Other than that, I'm doing pretty well and am resuming normal life.

Hey girls!!! I too have having weird pains in my incisions, it feels so weird, sometimes just touching them burns but I am doing awesome considering. I am still very tired and cant seem to enjoy sex yet, it's been way too long!!! I am having pains in my lower back and leg so I had a nerve conduction test (not fun!!) I am waiting for the results and my doctor thinks it might be from the Lupron shots I was on but can't be sure. I hope everyone's swelly belly goes away soon I know I'm hating it. For those of you who still have your ovaries are you getting hot flashes??? I have also been depressed and crying all the time. Some of it is expected due to my moms cancer coming back in her rib. She just got her petscan and it was clear though so I am very thankful for that. I really wish her doctor wouldn't have given her a time limit though or maybe that she just wouldn't have told me haha, I think it makes it harder because every time I think about it I'm crying again. Thanks for listening!!! Take care girls and please keep with your appointments and all of your check ups they are extremely important!!! Good luck and hope everyone is doing well.

Today is April 29th. I am cautiously optimistic that the major fatigue thing is finally lifting. I am 4 and 1/2 months out. About a month ago, instead of feeling impatient and depressed about it, which I had been, I decided maybe the healing process was similar to colic. My 3rd child had colic (I has thought it was only supposed to be FIRST children!!!--not really!). All of the literature I read, as well as experienced mothers, told me it would last 3 months. So, at three months, I expected it to magically STOP. My daughter is 21 now and my "sunniest" child of my three--and I can still remember exactly how long it took for the colic to stop: FOUR
MONTHS AND TEN DAYS!!!

So, I have just tried to accept what my body is doing and when the fatigue and swelly belly are gone, I'll probably have a party! Am really hoping to feel totally back to normal (I am, of course, already celebrating not having 2 full periods a month, terrible pain, not having to buy tampons anymore etc.

We do the best we can and so do our bodies. It takes a lot of patience to heal. Keep taking care of yourselves everyone. Thank God for this web site!

Hi, I have had a interesting journey since my operation. I think healing wise everything has gone really well.
The thing I have had to learn to deal with is surgical menopause Oh lordy I have not enjoyed that at all I didn't enjoy the hot flushes the crawling skin and the panic attacks to name a few so I have gone on to the HRT I did try the Herbal remedy first but it wasn't really working I am finding the HRT to be better I wouldn't say that all the symptoms have cleared up but they are better... at a stage where I can cope with it.
Take Care Everyone

Its been 4 1/2 months since my TAH, as well. I got to keep my ovaries, but am not so sure they are working. I've been plagued with hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, brain fog, surging hormones to the point I don't even like myself! My moods swings are crazy. My doctor seems to refuse its menopause since I still have my ovaries, and has been treating me for depression. Swelly belly bothers me from time to time, mostly when I've overdone and carried something I shouldn't have. Anyone else that still has ovaries feeling anything like me??

Hey girl, I was able to keep my ovaries and I have been thinking the same thing. I get hot flashes on and off sometimes really cold out of no where and man I cry at everything!!! I get angry for no reason then crying aaahhhhh sucks. My doctor told me even though I have my ovaries they have to get used to the change and so for awhile it will most likely be minimal hot flashes and night sweats, mood swings. My worst part are the night sweats and the crying all of the time. I'm hoping it is just that and it will go away but if it doesnt seem to be going away soon I am supposed to give her a call back. She also told me at one point that down the road I will probably have to have them out so I don't know. I hope it stops for you soon, if not I would defiantly call your doctor just to be on the safe side. I do also know that the hot flashes I am having lately are not nearly as bad as when they had me on Lupron so I think they are working just confused. haha. Good luck girl and heating pads and stretching out on my back have been helping my swelly belly, hopefully that might help your feel better, also of course keeping my pants unbuttoned alot. haha

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 12-Dec 18,2011

Six months ago today! Can't believe it!

I have to say I am feeling much better in terms of fatigue. Until about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was still requiring afternoon naps. I'm happy to say that has finally passed (it seems). But I still have a small strip across my abs that is totally numb. My sister still has a numb spot from when she had a Cesarean - 24 years ago! I'm wondering if my experience will be permanent also. I also get sore around my incision still at times. I haven't been good about getting back to my work out routine. I had been in such good shape before the surgery. I am losing inches although not pounds so things seem to be naturally going down. I still have what I guess is leftover swelly belly, or else it's just a bigger paunch than I had before. Hoping to get back to my gym routine soon. I have been playing a lot of catch up with my house - just organizing and cleaning - and that feels good. My family did okay with the cleaning but you know no one does it at well as we do ourselves, am I right?
I had a TAH - ovaries gone. I noticed some of you with ovaries are really suffering with menopause symptoms. I have a very low dose hormone patch and it helps immensely! I don't know if that is an option if you still have ovaries but I would highly recommend it. I feel sane again and clearer headed. No more mood swings. I still have mild hot flashes but not bad at all.
My surgery was a mess - transfusion, colon fused to uterus, degenerating fibroid taking over my abdomen, paralitic ilius afterward, and shingles too. So I'm giving myself another 3 months to really feel totally normal again. I'm sure having the surgery was the right thing for me. I just hope that I can get a little bit better/less sore/less belly, but I am grateful for the overall improvement in my health and wellbeing both physically and mentally.
I hope all you girls out there are doing well too! This has been such a great resource for me and I thank all of you for your input and support.

Happy 6 month anniversary all you Dec 12th Hyster Sisters. Hope you're feeling good. I feel back to my old self again thank goodness. It was a long road but by taking the smart road (resting a lot in the beginning) I feel my recovery is great. I did get to keep my ovaries and my cervix so everything works even a mini-period every month now. That was the only thing that really disappointed me. I was hoping to be done with that BUT I look at it as I know I still have ovaries that are working! Also I'll take this mini-period (I only need 2 mini pads for 2 days) compared to my 8 day gushers!!!! Hope you all are doing well!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 12-Dec 18,2011

Glad to hear that all is going well I had my cervix removed so I don't get any periods. Am 6 months post op and feel wonderful!
Had a wonderful skilled surgeon and am scheduled to see her again for an exam at the end of July. Will be nice to be able to speak to her again. Miss them all so much.
Will just go once a year after that just to keep up and make sure I am in tip top shape. Just hope the vaginal cuff don't bleed a little after the exam. Going to ask for silver nitrate right away if it does.
