Large uterus and fibroids - can I have da vinci?

I've been told by my GYN that I should have a hyster (hoping to keep ovaries and cervix) in the next 3-6 months, due to multiple fibroids (3 of which are large) and the bleeding they seem to be causing. I started on bc pills in August, but it made the bleeding worse -- non-stop bleeding since then, sometimes with flooding and large clots. Doc says I'm not a good candidate for ablasion due to the size of my uterus and fibroids. She doesn't recommend UFE 'cause it's painful with large fibroids and doesn't really solve the problem. I'm seeking a 2nd opinion next week and will see a GYN surgeon who specialiazes in Da Vinci at the end of the month. The last measurement of fibroids was 6.9 x 4.5 x 4.3 (posterior); 5.1 x 3.8. 5.0 (anterior left); and 4.8 x 4.6 x 4.8 (anterior mid). My last uterine measurement was 14.7 x 9.3 x 12.4 cm -- and doc says it's about 15 cm now. I can feel my uterus and a fibroid right underneath my belly button and can feel fibroid (or ovary, not quite sure) through my abdomen. Are these dimensions large by comparison to others? Has anyone had da Vinci with large uterus/fibroids?

There is some research that indicates davinci surgery can be done for larger fibroids. The surgeon will assess that when he / she sees you.

The important thing is to remember that this is just a tool for the Dr. You need to be comfortable with them and their bedside manner. You should ask how many surgeries they have done for large fibroida, how many comverted to open abdominal surgery and for what reasons.

Even if the surgery is done robotically it is still major surgery so take the time to heal and don't believe all the 'you'll be back to normal in 2 weeks" talk; some are and some aren't.

as you make your decision.

Tauruslady- thanks so much for your insight. You're right-- regardless of the method, the doc's bedside manner is critical. Thank you also for the realistic feedback about the robotic method -- I have read many postings that describe a speedy recovery. I'm hoping for this but your comments help me manage my expectations. Thanks!!!
