Lightheaded two days after surgery, when does it stop?

Hi Ladies! I have no major complaints from Monday's surgery. I feel really good. Yesterday I had horrible gas pains under ribcage and burped up a storm all day long. Today that is better. I try to take little walks around the house, avoiding stairs. It seems to help with gas issues.

I feel dizzy/lightheaded, though, when I'm watching t.v. (the more "motion" the more it bothers me) and especially if I try to read, I feel really weird, like my head is spinning. Is this a medication side affect (Percoset) or do I still have lingering anesthesia in my body? Just being here on the computer now for a couple of minutes I'm feeling woozy and feel the need to close my eyes.

Just wondering if this is kinda normal in the early days of recovery. I hope it doesn't last--I want to at least be able to enjoy some reading and watching t.v. while I'm lying around. Thanks!

Re: Lightheaded two days after surgery, when does it stop?

Dear LadyLynda,
I had the same situation. My doctor indicated the anesthesia/drugs would take about a week to move on. I too was using some Percoset (I was cutting them in half--not whole). I found eating unsweetend applesauce very soothing for my whole body. I too had the horrible gas pains. I kept the food to easy digestive only. Additionally, I have a small notebook which I have kept notes on every little thing since I have been home (forgetfulness because of the meds is very true). From the gas pains and the bowel movements (five days post-op) which helped me remember when I felt the best. Beside the applesauce some plain dry spelt bread toast (only one piece at a meal) made me feel better. I found the small meals spread throughout the day made me feel better too (5-6 very small meals).
The water was constant for me -- drinking all day. I also used a few tablespoons lemon juice and hot water to change up the beverages.
All the best to you as the lightheadedness will pass soon.
Enjoy the lying around.
God Bless

Re: Lightheaded two days after surgery, when does it stop?

Me too. I'm 5 days post op though and I can just now finally focus on tv, but not books to read or do crosswords yet.

I still get dizzy when falling asleep-it's very strange.

Here's to us feeling better!

Re: Lightheaded two days after surgery, when does it stop?

Welcome to narcotic-ville! Sorry that you are experiencing this but yes, the pain meds can cause a person to feel lightheaded. Take it easy and rest. I found that simply closing my eyes and reducing stimilation helped with the symptoms. My symptoms lessened considerably once I was able to stop the narcotic pain killers and move to just ibuprophen.

Re: Lightheaded two days after surgery, when does it stop?

I was the same way in the beginning. I could watch TV as long as I was lying down but the computer and reading were impossible. I would start feeling really sick. Once the anesthesia was completely out of my system it was better. Mine wasn't the pain meds because I'm still having to take a few every day.

It took me 5 days to feel even close to normal. I think the anesthesia hangs with you for a while. Hope you feel better soon.
