4 week post-op appt, a cold and premarin cream.............M

Hi all. Haven't been around for a bit. Got myself into a bit of trouble. I posted a while back asking how much bleeding was normal and got lots of great responses but guess my brain went on holiday so decided I was ok and didn't call the Dr cause it slowed down. Well, on Christmas Eve day I went to MIL and we baked all day. By the evening I was bleeding a bit heavier but it was still dark and not bright red so I ignored it. I was tired that evening but couldn't get comfy to sleep so tossed and turned most of the night. By Christmas afternoon I was bleeding bright red and heavy. I called my Dr's exchange and got a call back right away. The Dr on call put me on bedrest and that if it didn't slow/stop in a couple of hours to go to the ER. It slowed but I have been on bedrest til I talked to my Dr. I then went shopping for a bit yesterday(brain still on vacation) and had the same problem just not as heavy, but bright red so back to bed I go.

About 3 this morning I wake up sick. Itchy throat, stuffy nose and a cough,,,ugghhh!! I then got us all dressed and take the girls to MIL house and off to my appt I go. I get into the office and my Dr comes in while the nurse is doing my vitals. He hit the roof when he saw my temp was 102 thinking I had an infection. He wanted to send me off for tests but I finally get him to understand that I have a cold, not an infection. Then he really flips, saying that was YOU I've been hearing coughing and how bad a cough is for me at this point in my recovery. Needless to say I came home with a bag of meds and no release for any type of activities.

All in all, my recovery is going well and everything is healing nicely. I go back in 4 weeks and hope to hear that I can resume some more normal activities.

Now for the premarin cream. Has anyone used this before? I am supposed to put it on a tampon and insert it every other night. Can't even remember what he said it was for.

Anyway, that is my update.

((((((Peggy)))))))

I'm so sorry to hear about all your troubles! I guess you learned the hard way that listening to your body and calling the Dr at the first sign of trouble is extremely important after this major surgery. I certainly hope that your condition improves; sounds like you will have to give it some time, though, and try to be a good princess all over again. I'm thankful for you that you did not end up in the hospital.

Premarin is estrogen replacement. If you still have your ovaries, they still tend to shut down after their buddy, Ms. Uterus, is removed.... thus the Premarin to supply the missing estrogen.

Hope that helps. Now get off the computer and go to bed.

Thank you Toonces!! I didn't get a chance to say that. After a few days of doing absolutley nothing I started bleeding again pretty heavy yesterday(29th) and passing clots so back to bed I went again.

I am on a heavy duty cough med with orders to take every 4 to 6 hrs wether I think I need it or not til I am over this cold and the urge to cough. It really works well but makes me loopy.

I haven't used the premarin cream yet but thanks for the info on it. I do have my ovaries but do think they may be napping due to some symptoms I have had that are getting better.

Anyway, thanks again.

Peggy
