Cyst on Ovary with Solid Mass in Center
That was what the ultrasound report said this week. It was a shock because I was having my uterus and bladder examined via ultrasound and CT Scan for bleeding between periods and microscopic blood in urine. The uterus was fine except for a fibroid. CT Scan seemed normal although I am still going to have a cystoscopy.
My gyn seemed mildly alarmed and said it could be benign or it could be precancerous. She took blood for the C-125 and something else. The U/S report was kind of vague stating that it could be benign or not (I don't remember the term) and required close follow-up. The cyst is about 4.7 cm and the solid part is about 2.5 cm. There were NO other details like "ascites".
I asked for the number of a gynecological oncologist and talked to the woman in the office. She was very helpful and sent for my scan, but the doctor was not in. She said she has lots of ovarian cancer experience and this is different from what they usually see. I don't know if that's good or bad. She didn't seemed very alarmed, but was sympathetic. The earliest she could get me an appointment was January 12 and I was worried that is too far off. She said the doctor will call me if he feels it's urgent for it to be dealt with earlier.
I have no doubt that I will have the ovary taken out (or both-there is a small normal cyst on the other one), but I just wish I could do it now. But that's probably my health anxiety talking. I'm a 49 year old pre (maybe peri) menopausal woman. I'm a single mom of 4 teacher with no local family support. I feel overwhelmed. I can't eat or sleep.
Does the protocol being taken seem reasonable? Is there good reason to believe that this can have a good outcome?
