Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
I learned more from this website than I ever could from simply discussing matters with my physician. There is not enough time to explain every single thing that we need to know. I usually do my research and have a detailed list of questions before I see her, as well as having a decent handle on possible complications and the procedures that would correct said complications. When she told me that I had granulation, I said, "So we have to treat with silver nitrate, correct?"
Doctors love that sort of thing. I am so grateful for this website because without it, I would be LOST!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
Daisy Chick, so sorry about your "friend." Most of my coworkers inquired about how I was doing yesterday--and that's all the sympathy I'm going to get. My grade-level partner volunteered to get something ready for an upcoming field trip for us--and told me to go home and rest--bless her soul.
Fairy whispers, I agree with the others. I'd be upset with that treatment, too. I think I'd call back and speak with the nurse at least--I often feel that they really "get it" a lot more than the doctor does. I'd keep hounding until I got my questions answered.
Speaking of which, my doctor's nurse called back about exercise. I'm no exercise fiend but would like to know when it's safe to do certain things. He said no restrictions but proceed slowly and listen to my body. Stop when it hurts. Not real happy with that response. I don't want some set-back to occur! My friend told me to just concentrate on making it through the first week or two at work and not try to do it all at once. I think I'll take her advice--there will be plenty of time to get in shape after I've recovered completely. Looking forward to supper and a restful evening.

And fairy whispers, don't apologize--and you do not sound ungrateful to me o e bit. You sound like you were brushed aside and you were. Can you call back and request an appointment from the doctor that did your surgery?
Too bad there isn't a "Doc Advisor" like there is for vacation spots (Trip Advisor)--or IS there?

Fairy Whispers I would probably camp out at the office until I either saw my surgeon or spoke directly to him. This isn't hormones talking this is patient care and you can complain to your state medical board if you feel you have not received adequate care. If he/she is in a group of physicians you can ask for a call or meeting with the Lead Partner for the group to complain. I was in healthcare for 13 years in my former life and you can trust me Lead Partners DO NOT LIKE getting complaints regarding their partners lack of patient care.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
Fairy whispers, wow, I'd be disapointed and feel rather lost too! I agree that you should make an appt with your GP and call to talk to your surgeon's nurse. You need to have everything explained and feel comfortable in your recovery.
Aliciaellen, as far as exercise, I'm going to stick to walking for a while. After a few months I plan to slowly start some other activities - no sense in rushing it.
As far as recovery and being back to normal ... Yeah, this is just going to go how it goes and take however long it takes! I had a relatively easy and short surgery, but I'm hurting after sitting so long yesterday. I told my sister (after she too cheerfully told me I'd have to do the laundry next week cause it will be 6 weeks) that I was not doing "anything" if I was hurting. I honestly don't know how you ladies who are back at work can do it!
Take good care of yourselves, everyone!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
Fairy...I would be a mite honkerblonked off if I were you. I am going in with an arsenal of questions and just try to get me to leave....if I feel like I do today, I will just do a sit-in. I have always had really good repoire with my doc so hopefully ok. I would definitely be calling back to see your usual doc if you feel unsure of things.
I do usually say I am a bit better every day or have good days and bad or take 2 steps forward, 1 step back.....I do know that if any of my friends ever go through this, I am going to be supportive...in fact I think tonight I am going to make a list on things to do that would really help in case I forget! I love lists!!

Hysterectomy 12/29/11 6 week progress report
6 weeks have gone by since my surgery and I am finally feeling good. Very little pain only taking Ibuprofen 800mg as needed. The bladder is starting to function on a normal basis and I am able to sleep 3-4 hours before having to urinate. It has been 3 weeks since my catheter was removed. I just finished a 7 day course of Macrobid (antiobiotic) for yet another bladder infection. I pray that I don't get another one. The urinary urgency and frequency is getting much better, but I am so afraid that it will come back now that I am off the medication. I will keep my fingers crossed. The visible stitches in my vagina and right beneath my uretha are no longer visible. The one right under my urethra looked like a rubber band (white) ?? Did anyone else see that when they had a bladder sling. I did not notice that today and the vaginal pressure is almost gone.Still having some lower abdominal discomfort with bending and too much exertion.
To summarize this experience, it was much more difficult than I expected! The complications I experienced were not at all what I would have anticipated. I can now say there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I don't have any urinary incontinence, which I am thankful for!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
I agree the husbands think we feel great just because we left the house for the first time in 6 weeks. My husband and I went out for dinner on Saturday night and I was also exhausted because everyone was coming and talking to me, which while that is very nice that they care and I truly appreciated their concern, it is also very exhausting! I went home exhausted and very sore after sitting on a hard chair for 2 hours. Sitting really bothers me. I need to recline my legs. My husband has been very good and taking very good care of our 4 year old son! Yes,I have a 4 y/o and I am 47 y/o. The reason I had such a uterine prolapse was because of my delivery and the 10 lb baby I had, but I must say he was worth it! I love my son and he has been a really good boy. As far as sex is concerned that is off limits for at least another 3-4 weeks. I am not that brave. Love and prayers to all!
