Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012

I have not worn a belly band at all and definitely have the lower back pain...it is a compromise...too much laying down and it hurts, too much activity and it hurts....heating pad is making a reappearance for sure.

I agree that we should all post any general info from our docs....we share everything else. Lol.

I definitely needed stronger pain meds last night. Doing a bit of driving and errands was very hard on me. Ended up bleeding and in lots of pain. But bleeding stopped quicker and pain meds gave me a really good sleep.

Popcorn, I was eright where you are a few days ago. Until I made the decision to not go back to work yet. There is just no way...maybe after my doc appt and he does some silver nitrate to stop this bleeding, but then I need to take at least a week or 2 to build up some muscle. I am on my feet all day, reaching up down, and it is super busy so once there I know it will be harder to say I need to go home. I am going to build myself up by exercisinG at home, cooking some good meals for my family, get caught up on the accounting and management I need to do for our farm...I have to be doing that well before going back! I am going in for an hour today at the end of the day to let my boss leave for his kids hockey game. I need prescriptions anyway, and if I go in I would spend an hour until I visited with everyone, and the last hour of the day is usually quiet so hopefully be ok.

I am In Saskatchewan Canada.

I had a TVH w/BSO and I am on HRT. I have been doing pretty good, but now would have been the time that I would have had my period of 3 weeks. I was tempermental this weekend which is how I would be leading up to my period. Could it be that my body is still able to have PMS for a while? I'm also having a weird pressure feeling just inside the vaginal opening and in my lower abdomen. I did alot yesterday so it may be that I need to chill today.
So glad I have you all to lean on. Every day seems to be a new adventure.
I am having the same experience. I have felt really emotional, and my husband said, " Well, this would be the time you would have had your period.". I hate it when he is right about my cycle! Today, I am feeling better, and my period would be normally done by now. It doesn't seem fair to have this surgery, and still have the symptoms of PMS! Still feeling crampy. Still having annoying "stabs" in the missing cervical and vajayjay. I had A&P repairs, maybe that is why. Anyway--good luck on your swift and healthy recovery.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012

Thanks for all the feedback about my rubbish check up yesterday, it's nice to know that my reaction wasn't too unreasonable. I am definitely going to go and see my GP next week and see how I go about getting hold of notes etc.
I think our system of care over her in the UK might be quite different to what you have in the States? Our first point of contact when we're ill or have concerns is our General Practitioner (GP), they then refer us on to a specialist. For me in this instance that meant I was referred to the gynae team for my 'lady' parts and the general surgeon for my hernia and to take care of my bowel as my cyst was stuck to it.
I've been seeing the gynae team for the last 5 years, every 6 months, but the last gynae surgeon who tried to remove my cyst wasn't confident enough to remove it fully without damaging my bowel, so this time I was put on the 'head' gynae surgeon's list.
I saw my gynae surgeon and the general surgeon seperately leading up to my surgery, then I saw them in hospital and they operated together. I have an appointment in 2 weeks to see the general surgeon (or one of his 'team') and I saw a member of the gynae team yesterday.
Whilst I understand that the best place for these surgeons is in theatre, as opposed to sat in a consulting room answering questions, I don't see the point of having somebody you've never met doing follow up appointments. I'm more than capable of reading my own notes, you don't need to spend 7 years at medical school to do that (maybe a year at handwriting college would help though!), if that's all the follow up appointment is going to be.
Anyway, now that my surgery is complete and they deem me to be 'healthy' again, I've been discharged and no longer need to see the gynae team. No doubt the same will happen with the general surgery team in 2 weeks time.
So any future concerns will have to be taken to my GP and then referred back to the hospital again.
I don't know how that differs to the way it works over in the States? Obviously here we have the NHS which provides free health care, whereas you guys have health insurance and pay for medical treatment I believe? Maybe that's what makes the difference.
Anyway.....I came to the conclusion last night, that if I had to choose between great surgery, then not so good follow up care, or rubbish surgery followed by great after care...I know which I'd choose! Of course we shouldn't have to choose, both should be great, but you know what I'm saying?

As far as my recovery is going, I actually feel pretty good and sometimes even 'normal'! My tummy pulls and gets tender if I'm on my feet too long and I'm suffering with lower backache like a lot of you. I walked to school to collect the little girl I look after yesterday (10 minute walk each way) and that went ok. I'm cooking and cleaning (except for sweeping, mopping and vacuuming) the same as before surgery pretty much. I have to say that the improvement over the past week or so has been quite dramatic, I'm sleeping slightly better and having my HRT increased last week may be the reason, but whatever the reason I'm grateful for feeling like I've turned the corner.
So I'm sending all my positive and encouraging healing vibes to all of you lovely ladies. x

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012

Back from the checkup. My dr released me ... I think we should get some sort of "Release Ceremony" with confetti and a certificate, maybe cake. No, scones, I think. It just seems so anti-climactic (NO pun intended, but with this group...)

Anyway, I very much complained about my vag cuff pain! He took a look and seemed very pleased with everything. Poked around and said everything was mobile and soft And did an ultrasound to see if that showed anything ... Nada. So, maybe this type of pain can just be a part of the healing process?

After all that, plus discussing my HRT (upped again - up to 1mg divigel + 2mg oral estradiol, which he wants to discontinue in the not too far distant future), I did not ask about intercourse or exercise! But, then again, neither is tops on my "to do" list with this vag cuff pain! He did say to keep doing what I'm doing.

One more thing - my dr was ruling out a hematoma with the us. He also mentioned edema as being a possible contributing factor in the vag cuff pain. (didn't remark any, but I do!)

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012

ladies!!

It sounds like most of you are having positive post-op appointments. That is great news!! Keep up what you are all doing. Continue to take it easy, listen to your bodies and do not over do it!! You are all at the half way point for initial recovery and it sounds like you are all doing GREAT!!

and here is some "Release Ceremony" cake

Congrats to those being released by their doctors. Just remember, you are not completely healed yet, so still be super careful with your activities. For those who have not been released, do not get discouraged, it WILL happen. Take your time and recover well no matter how long it takes.

Anle, I'm sorry to hear that you are sad about your pathology reports. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

to you all....and keep up the GREAT work girls!!!

Hello Ladies,
I have some disappointing news, my Dr has scheduled me to go back into surgery on Friday morning. This is not news I wanted to hear nor what I wanted to have to do again. He said I am just bleeding too much and shouldn't be. So he needs to go in and find out what the heck is going on in there. I am happy to hear the news of you ladies who are getting your release. I hope in the near future I will beable to celebrate that day as well!
