Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
I have been stepping down my dose of pain killers every few days as the pain becomes minimal. Yesterday, I was tired of dealing with the early morning pains, so I decided to remedy that by taking two Percocets before bed instead of just one. When I woke up this morning, I felt so much better (as in, little to no pain). Since everyone in my house is currently sick, I let my husband sleep in for a while, and I got up and took care of the toddler, gave him medicine and took my own. Then we both went back to sleep --and miracle of miracles, everyone in my house slept until 12:30pm!
On a more funny note, I have this blanket that I made specifically for my surgery and recovery. I am always making things for other people but never for myself. It's light weight, includes the colors of the rainbow, and just makes me happy. I've been sleeping underneath it as well as a light sheet because of night sweats. My husband woke up this morning and said "I'm cold" so I pulled MY rainbow blanket over him, and he snuggled underneath it too. It was adorable seeing a big man with muscles all happy underneath a rainbow ripple blanket. Now he won't question why I love it so much--it's not too hot, not too cold...it's JUST RIGHT.

I now have temperature to 97.4, so that is an improvement. I am very bundled up and have the heat up. I don't know if using the ice pack so frequent on my belly has messed with my temperature. I wasn't sleeping with it when I became cold.

Re: One Week Post-Op
Wow wearing jeans...that's impressive. I haven't gotten there yet, still doing the yoga pants thing
I am about one week out of my supra cervical and have started waking up in the mornings with cramps which really I didn't have at all before, even when I first came home. Is anyone else experiencing that after a week?

Yes, Agatha. I think we determined that the anesthesia from surgery is finally leaving our bodies, and we are now feeling pains that we weren't feeling before. The cramps and aches are part of it. I think it was day six when I started to feel the individual sutures holding my body closed inside.
It should serve as a reminder to keep taking some pain meds, keep taking some form of anti-inflammatory, and watch how much activity you do. Totally normal. And no, I'm not in my jeans, either.

I totally agree! I told my surgeon/GYN about this site and she said that she would recommend it to all of her hysterectomy patients from now on.
She asked ME to give her a list of things that would make their hospital stay more comfortable, so of course, I gave her the link to this site and al of its pages full of good advice.
This one site took me from being totally clueless to knowing everything I needed to know about my surgery and what to expect. If not for the sisters here, I would have been lost!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
Today has been good so far. Woke up to hubby making breakfast and the kids cleaning their rooms. It was kind of funny bc I am usually the one getting on to them for not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Now, it is my very laid back husband (who usually enjoys the role of fun dad/good guy) who is saying things like, "If you don't start hanging up your clean clothes, you are going to have to start doing all of your own laundry," and "No more hiding trash behind your bed or I am putting it in your bed." (my kids are twelve and sixteen, so they know better and are capable.) I have to laugh. My son actually corrected my hubby for putting a red shirt in with darks. "That's not how mom said to do it." Oh man, I thought my husband was going to come unglued! He didn't get a chance to say anything...my son saw his face and made his exit! Teeheehee...
I told my husband that he was going to outdo me. He laughed and said he was just trying to keep up. Hmmmm...maybe all of this pain and junk is worth it in other ways, too!
Crampy today, but beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Found out that my principal found a tall chair and podium for me to teach from when I get back. She also sent me a gift card to Chili's for when I feel like getting out with the fam. It made me cry...so sweet.
Learning to find the humor and focus on the improvements instead of setbacks...learned that from you all! Thanks.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
Happy Saturday ladies! Hope today is a "good" day for all of you! I am so glad yesterday is over, I had the worst swelly belly ever and each of my 4 incisions were killling me! I have glue on mine, not bandages, so they don't itch, but man when I overdo it, like I did on Thursday..yesterday was lousy! I've asked my daughter to look at Walmart today for a maternity belly band to see if that will help me a bit. I had to resort to cold packs last night, which I haven't done since day 2 or 3 post op. I am going to pace myself today and try to be carefully productive. I didn't know til I found this site yesterday that I shouldn't be bending or stooping over! I've done that constantly! I try to squat but I definately have been very bad at the bending over. Thanks Ladies for being here a sharing your stories, I am absolutely learning so much from you all! Enjoy your Saturday!

Jules, my doc didn't tell me about the bending either! In fact, he said to do what I felt like doing. Weird!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 02-Jan 08,2012
I've been feeling off the last couple day's too, I took my temp last night and it was normal, but I feel like I'm in a cold sweat and then last night I woke up completely drenched from night sweats multiple times. I've had those for a couple years now, but I'm wondering that since I'm fighting off a head cold, maybe there is more going on....or could it be some sort of menopausal thing since I've lost an ovary?
