Blood Disorder And Hrt ???????

I am wondering about blood disorders and HRT. I had both ovaries removed and the doctor put me on estratest and premarin 1.25 . I have been having a miserable go of this as far as mood swings etc. also taking wellbutrin sr for mood swings and depression, that has come on only since surgery , but since surgery was having a huge problem with seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Meds help, but I have read posts were people have posted that they are not able to take HRT due to blood disorders I have Von Willenbrand, and have notice that I am having a little more soft tissure bleeding then normal (gums are bleeding alot). But I am healing surgically ok had 5 week post op and got the all clear from the DR...My daughters and myself are the first Von Willenbrand patients that my DR. has had and he has done alot of research on the disorder but we all seem to be learning together, Youngest Granddaughter sees a pediatric hemotologist but don't want to bother him with my questions unless , I can't find answers elsewhere. ..I have the disorder in one of it's milder forms....where granddaughter has it in it's worse form........ Was hoping that someone else might know about this.... I really would hate to be taken off the HRT right now although I am in the process of lowering the doses that I am on. thanks janet

Von Willenbrand's and HRT

Hi,
I have Von Willenbrand's, and had a TAH on Valentine's Day 2001. I cannot take HRT because I had thrombophlebitis, not related to the Von W. I would consult with a hematologist, but I was told that the thrombophlebitis precludes me from HRT, not the Von W. Incidentally, before I got phlebitis, I was on the Pill--I was very stupid and very young, and smoked heavily when I was on the Pill, and that's what caused the phlebitis. If you do go on HRT, DON'T SMOKE!!!!!!

So, do ask the hematologist. It is my personal experience that the Von Willenbrand's by itself would not prevent you from taking HRT. I have been told that even with my thrombophlebitis I could wear a very low dosage patch, but not take oral HRT.

Best,

Thank you Harley

Harley Thank you for taking the time to reply to my questions I appreciate your mentioning not smoking. I quit 1 month ago and this is all the more reason to be sure I don't give into wanting a cigarette. I have reduced my HRT and am trying to keep a positive outlook as I really do not want to end the year unhappy and start the new year that way either. I will share the inormation with my daughter who also seems to be heading down the same path as me medically.
I am pleased that the other posts that I have read about HRT and blood disorders have no relation to the the Von Willenbrand's, as most of the posts do not list the type of blood disorders that they are dealing with.
Once again THANKS and happy a wondferful New Year

Janet
