hysterectomy with fibromyalsia

I'll be having surgery in 9 days, and im really worried about pain control. I was diagnosed with fibromyalsia last year, and im having a hard time dealing with the pain. I would appreciate any advice or words of comfort. Sometimes i feel as if my family dont understand just how much pain im dealing with.

Re: hysterectomy with fibromyalsia

I had an epidural with mine. That helped. For some reason, pain killers mixed with an anti inflammatory worked better with my fibro...Norcos are hydrocodone and ibuprofin. It worked much better then the other meds. I'm thinking keeping swelling under control helps keep our sensitive pain receptors under control. Also, if you are a diet drink drinker, don't do it till your pain is under control. Aspertame is terrible for fibro. I finally kicked the diet coke habit, and my symptoms of fibro are almost gone!

Re: hysterectomy with fibromyalsia

Dear Wife,
You haven't stated how your fibro is managed usually . With pain pills, Ibuprofen, diet and exercise? If you see a regular MD for Fibro I would suggest the dr performing the surgery call your reg MD to make sure pain is managed. That is what mine did and I had minimal pain Family will not understand fully because they aren't the ones that have to live with pain constantly. There is a checklist on this site for "getting prepared before and after surgery". I printed that out and placed a couple of copies where my loved ones could casually read it. It reminded my family members that I had to rest and not rush into activity. Stay in your PJ's if possible. If you are getting dolled up family will assume you are "better". Do make sure to shower and pamper yourself when possible. I also went for a massage and it helped relax me which calmed the pain. I hope this helped. I had my surgery 11-15-10. Best wishes!!
