Estratest

Hi!
I'm a newbie here to this forum. I had my total abdominal hysterectomy with BSO on August 20th of this year. A couple of days post -op I was started on the Estratest tabs. I have since developed moderate acne which we are trying to control with a cycle of antibiotics..it might be working..if I would just leave my face alone! I have gained about 5 lbs, but then it IS the holidays. I have also had around a 50% hair loss, but replacement has started..this could be from the anesthesia of my two surgeries.

I'm 35 yrs old and my Dr. felt this would be the best HRT for me. can anyone tell me of their experiences with this drug...positive or negative...I would like to hear both sides. I just hope this is the right choice for me.

Thank You in advance,

Kerry

Kerry - This question would be better answered in the hormone jungle section of our message boards

I started on premarin .0625...and liked it well however, libido was a little low...so went on estratest HS...had the same amount of estrogen..but also testosterone. I tried it for a month..but didn't like it at all...so switched back to premarin. Testosterone can cause acne...and lead to hair loss with some.

There are lots of different kinds of HRT...and if one isn't working for you...you can always try another. Call your gyn. back.

Kerry - Here's a link to thread from hormone jungle about estratest. Thought you might want to read it.

I had a TAH/BSO on 12/3 and started on Estratest on 12/5. So far I haven't had any problems. I have gained a couple of pounds but I attribute that to my lack of exercise. And I've been thinking that my complexion has been looking better than before. No breakouts at all. I sure hope I don't start getting acne! And my hair is thin enough .... I don't have any to spare! LOL

I've been on full strength estratest since 2 days post op. So far the only complaint I have is Night sweats (which are diminishing) and the fact that I cannot sleep through the night.

Not on progesterone yet but I plan on discussing it with my doc once I go in next week for my two week follow up.

Also plan on printing out some info on progesterone for him off this site.. who knows I might be able to change his mind from no uterus= no progesterone.
