Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 09-Jan 15,2012
Hi Sisters,
Week 4 day 3 of post op. Feeling pretty good. Finally sleeping most of the night, only have to get up a couple of times for the restroom but easily fall back asleep. Most of the day I'm painfree but if I sit too long or stand too long I feel pressure in my abdomen and my back gets stiff. The evenings are my swelly belly times. I usually turn in early, relax and watch my favorite night time shows. I sure am not looking forward to going back to work. This has been the most peaceful time in a long while. Normally I am running crazy with two start up businesses and a full time job, church activities and my husband, who has been a real trooper. So, I am really enjoying the attention and not having to do anything. I return to work on March 6. Hmmm...I'm thinking part time for a couple of weeks. Those 11 hour days might be a bit much to start.
So sisters, how are you all doing? I pray you are progressing very well.
Blessings,
Denise

Don't think too hard. If you can do part time days, I would. It will be difficult to go right into 11 hour days, and you will not have this opportunity for a long time, maybe retirement! LOL Good luck!

Re: Frustrated!!!!Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 09-Jan 15,
I had the davincci on 01/10. Kept my ovaries. I am having the same cramping. Constant but some daya are much worse than others. I saw my doctor 1 week post op and was not having these. I do not see him again till the 20th. No bleeding, just period like cramping... like you said. Let me know if you find anything out about it.

Hi Denise, we had the same type hyster the same day, and what you described is exactly how I'm feeling. Seems like we are doing pretty well. I'm 64 and I didn't think I'd be doing this well 4 weeks out. Are you driving yet? I'm not. It's good that you don't have to return to work until March 6, and I hope you can shorten these days at first. I wish you continued progress with your recovery

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 09-Jan 15,2012
My periods were regular but really bad, a super plus tampon and an overnight pad couldn't get me through an hour. The clots were huge and my iron level went as low as 4. When I told my doctor about the clots, her response was "eww, gross". She highly recommended the Mirena IUD because it releases estrogen and is supposed to almost eliminate your periods. I had it put in and it didn't help at all. So, after two months, I went back and, without doing an exam, she told me that I needed to give it more time.
After four months, I went back to see her and, again without doing an exam, she said it could take up to eight months to see a reduction in menstruation and to give it time. Shortly afterwards, I felt some bumps inside my vagina, none on the outside. I went back to my GP and she told me that she thought I had an STD but she wasn't sure and made a referral to see a gynecologist.
I went to the see the gynecologist and she laughed at the idea that I had an STD. I told her about my heavy periods and she did an exam. It turns out that the Mirena IUD wasn't even inside me anymore ... I could have gotten pregnant!!! because we weren't using any other form of birth control.
I went for an ultrasound which confirmed there was no Mirena and that I had a really large fibroid. The gyno said that the IUD was either put in wrong because of the fibroid or it came out because of my heavy periods. The bumps that I had felt were on this really large fibroid.
I had my hysterectomy almost a month ago and my surgeon told me that my fibroid was the size of his fist. I am feeling great and even went on a roadtrip the day after my surgery. I'm vacuuming and doing all sorts of things.
But I learned a valuable lesson. My GP couldn't even bother to do an exam and I need to be more direct in asking for referrals and follow up.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 09-Jan 15,2012
I am 5 week post op from a TAH. We were hoping to save the ovaries..but the endometriosis had other plans. My doc removed everything..and also my appendix. The pathology reports made it easier to accept since endo was throughout and also had some fibroids and other issues.
I feel happy that everything is going ok. But I am tired. Not used to be tired from just healing. Been increasing my activity as my doctor suggested, but he did not want me to exercise yet. I know that I am not back to me yet because shopping is not fun. I find it difficult just to push an empty shopping cart Trying to increase movement, bending, etc...slowly and seeing if I can tolerate the pain.
I occasionally have burning pains on my right side. The second day in the hospital, the burning pain was over the top. I groaned and yelled every step I took. It eventually subsided, but every once in a while it flares up. Called doc today and he said "neurogenic pain". Being patient with it and documenting when it happens.
Came home from hospital with the Vivelle dot. Not sure how I feel about it. Im 37. Had a few hot flashes but nothing major. Feel good for the most part.
I am supposed to return to work 2/21. Not sure about it. I am a teacher. I am fatigued. Still waiting for the emotions to come out. I've got them bagged up right now and letting them out little by little. I know the stress of work will send me over the top so I am trying to deal with it now.
Anyone have any insight to the dot or to weight loss..or to maybe when the fatigue will subside? or maybe the burning sensation?
Thanks.

Re: Frustrated!!!!Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 09-Jan 15,
I had daVinci on 1/11 -- removed uterus and cervix and kept both ovaries. I have had absolutely NO menstrual-like cramps. I am still just dealing with a slight discharge. Other than that, I am feeling very close to normal. I am anxious to see how I feel next week when it would normally be time for my period.
I also go to the MD next Thursday for a check-up.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 09-Jan 15,2012
Hi everyone:
Had DAVH on 1/9, kept 1 ovary. I went back to work this week. I just sit in a chair and talk to people. By Wednesday, I started to have pain in my vagina/rectum. I saw my surgeon for a postoperative visit on Thursday. He said everything is healing well. He did an internal and pushed around and found the areas where I am feeling pain. He said I am ok, he did a lot of work very close to my rectum and I am still healing. He recommended I go back on ibuprofen for 2 more weeks. I had a lot of pain yesterday and I realized it feels like nerve pain internally and some sciatic pain as well. Has anyone else experienced those sensations of nerve-like pain in vagina/rectum area or sciatic pain in lower back/buttocks area?
Other than some fatigue and this pain I think I am doing well. Returning to work was psychologically challenging--just having to think so much again after my mind has had so much time off and was quiet--it was stimulation overload! Hope you are all progressing. This will all be behind us soon--justa memory. Peace and grace.
