19 Days Postop

Hello. I had my hysterectomy (da Vinci/Vag) on Dec 29th, so am not quite 3 weeks post-op. I had very little actual bleeding after. However this has increased somewhat... and it appears to be brighter red (very tiny spots on the pad).

[Hopefully]I am attributing this to this: On the day I came home from the hospital, a friend came over to sit w/me while my husband had a meeting to attend. I had made this arrangement one week prior to surgery; but 3 days prior, this friend said she was coming down with a virus. I then made a new plan w/a different friend. This first friend, however, called and said that she was OK. NOT!!! When my husband left, and she came in, she was hacking and coughing all over everything! Hence, 6 days ago I came down with a bad sore throat and sinus-thing. Now it's in my chest and I am not happy, both physically and otherwise--I'm mad!

My point: I am thinking that this additional darker spotting is due to the fact that I am coughing, sneezing, and blowing from getting this illness. I'm not bleeding a lot, just a few drops each day, but it's red, not pink.

At what point should I become more concerned w/the bleeding? How much is too much?

Re: 19 Days Postop

I wouldn't be surprised if the coughing and sneezing isn't the cause. You might want to call your dr. to make sure all is ok.

You need immediate medical attention if you are bleeding heavily and filling a regular pad about once an hour. Also if the smell is foul, not just different but bad.

Also, around 3 weeks a lot of people do have spotting because the stitches are dissolving so it could be that too.

Re: 19 Days Postop

Whirlygig is right!!

If you start bleeding heavily (like a period) or are passing clots, you should go the ER immediately.
Some bleeding is normal, especially around the 3 to 5 week mark. As Whirly said, internal stitches are starting to dissolve and sometimes this causes some light bleeding.

I'm sorry that you ended up sick. I hope the cold resolves itself very soon so you can get back on the road to recovery!! Always call your if you are worried. That is what they are there for! Keep us posted!!
