Yukky smelly discharge anybody?

Hello again, Here I am with a new concern other than the foley catheter. This time it's about a slight drainage that has an odor to it. I have a very sensitive nose and I can smell odors where someone else can't smell a thing. I notice sometime when I sit on the potty (I can't pee on my own, yet for having the catheter) I will sit to pretend that I am peeing. It's weird, I know! When I wipe, there's a sticky, slightly smelly, discharge on the outside of my u know what - what! Is this normal to have this going on. I know it is for the drainage, I am almost 13 days post op.
I often get in the shower and use the hand held shower sprayer and just spray warm water on all my areas that hurt and throb and it gives me some ease. It is still very sensative down below and I know that if I sit wrong or bend over a certain way, or sneeze or cough, the pressure feels like every stitch is going to be blown out of place. Any one that may have a clue about this concern please write to me....thanks for all your replies on the other topics and questions that I've had last week...You all must know that you have eased my worries and kept me from being overly anxious about these strange events taking place in this body. God Bless each and every one of you....Have a Happy New Year! Lisa B.

Yukky smelly discharge anybody?

Hi Lisa!

Discharge is normal; foul-smelling discharge may be cause for concern. I had watery, pale-colored discharge for several weeks! The smell was not foul, but it was of a strange, 'surgical' smell, I suppose.

You are right to take notice; be mindful of the smell and color. Report this to your DR - s/he may want to see you to make sure everything is OK. If there is infection, you certainly want to take care of it very quickly.

Best wishes! Let us know how things progress.

I agree that it's always good to check with your Dr. just to be on the safe side. I did have a funny-smelling discharge for awhile...kind of a "mediciney" odor. I didn't have an infection, and was checked for one. My Dr. said that this can happen as a result of stitches dissolving, and can last for a couple of weeks or so.

My very best to you...

Just a quick note --- be careful of the direction of the hand-held shower sprayer. You shouldn't get any water up into the vagina. Let us know what the doc says about your discharge.

Best wishes and Happy New Year!

To Logan,

Eating yogurt while on antibiotics is a good idea, as it helps the "good" bacteria balance out the "bad". However, when you go to the store, make sure to get yogurt that says "live culture" or "acidolphilus" on the container. It tastes the same as those without it.

My very best to you...

Thank you, ladies!

Girls, thanks for all your concerns and good advise. My surgeon and ob/gyn is out for the holidays until Jan. 2nd. I most definately plan to call him early on the 2nd. I certainly hope he tells me to get my butt up to the office that morning. Otherwise, I will have to wait until the following Friday to see him.
For some reason, I had been craving some good ole Dannon yogurt as soon as I came home from the hospital. I had been trying to stay on a soft diet due to the rectal procedures that were done during surgery along with my hystorectomy. I just didn't want to get constipated or have a rough BM while I am so bruised feeling.
I have been making sure that I didn't get water inside my "u-know-what-what" area. As I stated in my beginning post on this topic...my nose is very sensative to any weird smells or odors. I didn't realize that the stitches dissolving on the inside of me would have a slight smell. Thank you, ladies, for setting me straight. God Bless you all....

Hey! It is New Year's Eve!
God Bless You all!
