Ovarian cysts - Don't know what I should do?!

Long story...let's see if I can get it straight and not confuse anyone : )

I'm 30yrs old, mother, married...

2010 had 10cm cyst on left ovary, had surgery and both cyst and ovary removed. 2011 had another cyst on right ovary 7cm, had surgery to have removed and also had endometriosis pretty bad. Also I've had abnormal pap and "scoop" done due to high grade abnormal cells, repeated paps every couple months have been fine.

Now I have had another cyst only 5 3/4cm on my right ovary again. Have been watching it for 5-6 months now. Still there, very painful somedays. To bend, walk, have sex. Because of my age my dr really doesn't want me to have a hysterectomy but given my history I could have another surgery to remove cyst and another will just form again. I am ready to have hysterctomy now! I want the pain to end! I just don't know what to expect from a hysterctomy? My husband and I are fine with having no more kids. I just am affraid of the effects of the hysterctomy, mood swings etc. I have had mood changes since my first ovary was removed. Depression, irritabilty, loss of motivation. I recently started taking sarafem the week prior and week of my peiod to help with those mood issues. It's helped..but this cyst is driving me nuts! What should I do?? Any advice on this woud be so much appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: HELP! Don't know what I should do?!

You've come to the right place! Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm the one to answer your questions.

I'm 47, and rather than face several smaller procedures that may or may not be effective and perpetual monitoring, I chose to have a hysterectomy. Also, my issues weren't with my ovaries, but uterine fibroids plus abnormal paps.

BUT - I hear you on the "I just want the pain to end!" part. Pain, irregular and extremely heavy periods that seemed to last forever and ever .... anemia and the list goes on. Once I made up my mind to have the hyster and made the appointment I was giddy with anticipation.

I kept my ovaries but am entering menopause so have some depression and mood issues I'm working with my doctor on. Hopefully that gets resolved fairly quickly. At 9 weeks post-op I still get twinges of minor pain now and then; other than that, I suffer no ill effects from my surgery. Sex is better than it has been in a long time, I feel physically better and I'm getting my life back.

Whatever you decide, you will find support here. (((HUGS)))
