Is pubic area shaved before an TAH??

Hi,
I had a TVH with Burch (which required incision) on the 11th and yes....sorry to say, the little nurse came in and said "barber" and shaved it all off! Mine is slow to start growing back, but she said when it does, to use hair conditioner to control the itching. Good luck with your surgery!

Mindylou

Is pubic area shaved before an TAH??

Hi, I was shaved at the hospital, after the I.V. and everything was started. It was only about an inch or two right where the incision would be. A nurse did the shaving. I was advised not to shave the area myself. They were worried about infection from any nicks that might occur. I worried about this along with almost everything else, and it turned out to be no big deal really. Take care and try not to stress. The waiting part is truely the worst part.

Thanks for such a prompt reply! This was a question that I hadn't seen addressed here and I feel better knowing things in advance. Thanks again.

I had NO clue I would be shaved. They did it while I was asleep and it ITCHED!! Thanks for the tip on conditioner, but I needed it last week. Now things feel pretty good, though it is slow to come back.

shaving

Hi there, I am in Canada and when I asked my doc about shaving he said that if I wanted to shave then that was entirely up to me because he did not require it. I had a TAH/BSO. He told me that there was no indication of increase risk of infection by not shaving. I guess every doc is different.
DH gave me a little trim about four days before surgery and eveything went well for me.
I wish you luck.

Happy New Year to you.

Yes, I was shaved about an inch down. As the insison went into the area. (vertical insision) It was done after I was asleep. The only thing they did while I was awake was take vital signs, and start an IV. And of course asked me every question under the sun.

Hi!

I had a TAH/BSO and was not shaved. Just like everything else, it appears every one and every doctor is different!

Good luck!

Is pubic area shaved before an TAH??

It is strange how every doctor and hospital have different procedures! I had a TAH/BSO and was shaved about an inch at the top. This was done after I was already asleep. My incision is actually right at the top of the hair line. I never thought to ask my doc about whether or not I would be shaved. Guess I had too many other questions on my mind at that time!
Best of luck!

Beth
