3 days post-op, better than i expected
I had the da vinci surgery on tuesday, and with the help of this web site I was very prepared for everything:
Pre-op: I was worried at first that the bowel prep wasn't working. I was on a clear liquid diet all day, and took magnesium citrate at noon.. It didn't work till about 9 PM, ( I was worried, but my doctor's office assured me at 5 Pm, not to worry and just to do my 2 enemas before going to bed) In any case I did get emptied out, I had to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM...
Surgery; was about 7:30.. next thing I knew it was noon and I was in recovery... feeling OK.. they wheeled me into my room where I was greeted by my husband and daughter..who told me the doctor said all went well.. I will get the results of the biopsies in about a week, but I feel pretty confident, since everything looked ok and everything was removed... just in case,,including the lymph nodes..
Hospital: I started feeling bad at night and was using the morphine drip, but it was giving me a headache and my foley bag was full...at 5;30 the nurse responded and after she emptied the bag and gave me a percodet, I felt so much better.. they discharged the morphine.. don't know about anyone else, but a similar thing happened after I gave birth, I don't think morphine is good for me... I
I woke up feeling much better, bloated.. and swollen, but ready to leave the hospital.. and the awful food.. and a screaming patient in the next room who was continuosly calling for the nurse and threatening to kill herself..
My doctor didn't get there till 7:30 at night to DC me, but I sure was happy to get home to my own bed.
Home: First night , sleeping was OK, needed a percocet and pillows under my legs, head and on my tummy..but slept so much bettter than at the hospital..
my daughter has been staying here, as my husband is currently be treated for stage 4 esosphogeal cancer and has problems of his own many days.. but they both have been great.
yesterday, I only needed tylenol, and today no pain meds at all!.. am walking every 2 hours as doctor recommended.. blowing into my sphignometer... eating a little more each.. and all other functions are good.. I feel so amazed how well it all went.. I definitely would recommend this surgery to anyone who can use this method..
my best recomendations.. bring sucking lozenges to the hospital. I had some honey sucking candies that soothed my throat and helped even more than the meds.. the chap stick and ice cubes were good too... and the prunes have been a life saver, I had some every day since the surgery and they did their magic.. my reacher is very handy... and I needed some of my drawers reaarranged ..so I can reach my clothes now that I want to get dressed..
my first shower felt great! I feel great, but do need to rest a lot each day.. i have to remind myself of this!~
good luck to all that will need one .. and I hope to be back to work by Monday feb 6.. ( we'll see)... by the way,, I am 60 post menopausal.. so those things were not an issue for me...
