Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 06-Feb 12,2012
Hi everyone! How is everybody?
Have any of you had your hormone levels checked since your surgery? Just wondering....
About 6 weeks ago, my body and mind went berzerk. I received hormone testing results back yesterday and discovered that my progesterone, DHEA and Cortisol levels were low enough that they weren't even on the chart (meaning, they didn't even make the low range). This was causing heart palpitations, unexplained anxiety, weight gain (a small amount that only I could notice), incredibly low energy level (was requiring between 8-12 hours of sleep every night) and zero sex drive. OH, and did I mention horibble crazy psycho mood swings???
My test results showed I was perimenopausal...I'm only 31. AND I kept my ovaries. Talk about a slap in the face! I started Bioidentical hormones yesterday to get this fixed asap and am hopeful that within 30 days I'll be feeling tons better. After this experience, I am hopeful that other women who have hysterectomies are aware that even if you keep your ovaries, you can STILL have major fluctuation in hormones after a partial hysterectomy!! My doc told me I would have NO change....boy was he WRONG!

Sanctuary, hope you enjoy your jaunt to NYC. You deserve a vacation and a great trip!!!
I am running my first post-hysterctomy half marathon (it will be #21 for me) on Mothers Day, it will be one day shy of 14 weeks since my hys.
Ran my first race of the season on April 28th, a 5 miler and was only 2 minutes slower than last year despite only being back to normal running for 6 weeks and only 12 week post hys.
Had a bit of a scare two weeks ago...Dr. felt something he didn't like in my breast.......went for a diagnostic mannogram within the week and they did it twice, then took me into another room for a different machine, then straight to the Dr. in another room for an ultrasound............this process took about an hour and I'm not ashamed to say I was there by myself and very very nervous..............thankfully it turned out to be just several very large cysts......
So I am very thankful every day for a good recovery.
Take care of yourselves ladies. I truly have appreciated the support and caring I found here.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 06-Feb 12,2012
Just wanted to update everyone with the results from my first post surgery half marathon. Ran half #21 on Mother's Day, one week shy of 14 weeks post-surgery.
I was amazed that with only 6 weeks of real training that I posted a 2nd best half time of 2:01:51.
I don't think that over the last few years I realized what a toll my horrendous monthlies were taking on my energy levels.
Wish all of you the best!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 06-Feb 12,2012
Had my surgery 2/9 and went back to work mid March and felt GREAT!!! Surgery was the best thing I could have done. Energy was back, sex life good, etc. Dont regret a thing!!!!
However woke up 4/9 and found I was in Hopkins due to seizures and they discovered I had a brain tumor!!!!! Completely out of the blue and apparently had been there for years with no symptoms Neil April. Had surgery 4/27 and now will be off work until July. Obviously 2012 is NOT my year. Luckily not cancerous and they got it all removed. Pain isn't horrible but having 50 staples in my head and a boatload of meds doesn't help. Lots of anxiety with it too. Doctor couldn't really say if there was any link with hysterectomy and brain tumor.
Anyway I'm glad I don't have to deal with all my prior period issues along with this but stil freaked to have undergone both surgeries just a couple of months apart. Crazy!!!!!!!!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 06-Feb 12,2012
Wow. What amazing things are happening to us! These secondary diagnoses are frightening but so glad the results have been relatively positive. I am feeling great, on estrogen patch, but I can tell other hormones are missing and may address that soon. I just landed in Germany on the way to Russia, of all places! Traveling w hubby to conference. I will run my first 10k on Memorial Day. As you said RunnerQueen, I had no idea the toll being anemic had taken u tool I started training. I can run easier now than I did 30 years ago. What a joy! Everyone take good care! Cheers ...
